Vid analysis: Driving me rucking crazy

No Gravatar

Adjudicating the match between the Wallabies and France last Saturday was a random penalty generator, otherwise known as David Pearson.

Some of his decisions were mystifying, but there was one pretty early on that truly pissed me off and it’s in the video below.

It’s not the inconsistency that shits me as much as the complete pointlessness Read more »

Leagies showing their Stupidity?

No Gravatar

A friend (not Andy) was telling me about this (NRL) Footy Show segment. In it El Masri (who has recently announced his retirement, probably because of this GAGR Exposé [he's a time traveller]) kicks a regulation (NRL, coke zero) ball inflated with helium over soccer goals from a supposed 100 metres distance. Of course i did not believe him because i have seen it busted twice on mythbusters (once with a throwing machine and then revisited with a kicking [punting] machine).

But then I started searching online video Read more »

Pre-Grand Slam XV – The Amateur Selector

No Gravatar

I am what you might call an amateur selector. One of my favourite hobbies is picking Rugby XVs. At any given time I could provide you of my all time Wallaby XV. My favourites Reds XV. Brumbies, Waratahs even the bloody Force.

And I’m not parochial either. Want to hear my all time World XV to take on my Wallaby XV? Fine, its all up here (taps head knowingly). A running rugby XV? A bearded XV? A tacklers XV? Check, check, check.

But there is on thing all these XVs have in common. One caveat to every selection. Read more »

Video analysis: Aussie scrum vs France

We sure do take our scrummaging seriously these days, so when a few calls went against the Wallabies on the weekend, we decided to take a closer look…..

Alt video highlights: Wallabies vs France

The more I watched it the more I realised the Wallabies simply didn’t let the French play. A clinical and useful gameplan with the 3Ns around the corner. A few laughs at the end.

Wallabies vs France player ratings

1. Benn Robinson 8 – Fat Cat was outstanding last night. The scrum was solid and his work around the field was reminiscent of his Super 14 form, two pilfers confirm this.

2. Squeeky Moore 6 – Again the line-out wasn’t what it should be but Moore proved once again he is head and shoulders above TPN.One of the few Wallaby forwards to make an impact and dent the French defence.

3. Le Fuse 6 – Seemed to get the rough end of the pineapple by getting penalised at the scrum.Had one particularly inglorious moment when he head-planted right on the half-way line and got a mouthful of chalk. Read more »

South Africa 28 – British & Irish Lions 25

What an absolute pearler, best game I’ve seen in a couple of years. And such a thriller at the end for sure. It was a gladiatorial contest of titanic proportions. The British & Irish Lions threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Bokkies and just when they could see victory over the horizon, were heartbreakingly defeated on the bell. This will go down in the annals of South Africa v Lions matches as a classic. Read more »

Parisse's grip

Parisse getting to grips with Ross

New Zealand 27 – Italy 6

The All Blacks struggled to overcome a committed Italian side tonight scoring three tries to none, but it was the manner of the win that will have the AB brains trust a little concerned. The result was never going to be in doubt, just a matter of by how much.

In previous encounters the score has always been substantial but tonight our Eyetie compatriots tackled their hearts out and in fact, had a huge territorial advantage for most of the game (70%  played in the All Black half). Read more »

Mathieu Bastareaud le fake: Oh my Godwin!!

Lying Bastareaud

Lying Bastareaud

What a difference a week makes – both for Mathieu and Godwin. It is said that sport and politics should never mix, but the parallels between the cases of Bastareuad and Godwin Grech have blurred that line.

Rugby followers were shocked last week at the news that Les Bleu centre, Mathieu Bastareuad, had been assaulted outside the team’s Hotel after spending the night on the piss with his team-mates.

French team manager, Jo Maso, evoked the confected outrage of Liberal Senator, Eric Abetz, as he prosecuted the case for Bastareuad in the press. Read more »

Wallabies vs Les Bleus preview

What a change it is to finally get excited about an early season Wallabies test match!

The French team have proved on successive weekends against the AB’s what an uncompromising unit they are, being unlucky not to beat the AB’s twice instead of once.

Marc Lievremont has made seven changes to the team which clearly enjoyed themselves after the second test in Nu Zulund. Sadly however, two of the most influential French forwards, Louis Picomoles and the Caveman, have had to be replaced through injury. In a somewhat strange move, the halves combination has also been replaced in an effort to help freshen up the team. Read more »

'Pressure? You're kidding - pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse!'

'Pressure? You're kidding - pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse!'

What a shame that British & Irish Lions tours have been condensed and watered down to just a rump of what they should be. It used to be a four test full blown tour encompassing all the decent provincial sides and some lesser mid week opposition,  with all home international players allowed to participate.

This provided the touring side with an opportunity to build up some test combinations and importantly, give the rabid Yarpie fans a decent rugby spectacle all around the Republic. Times have changed in the professional era, for the worse in this case.  Here we are with a week of the tour to go and what have we seen to date? Apart from the excitement of the test last weekend and maybe a couple of other decent games, the fans have had bugger all to cheer about. Read more »

Friendy talks all things Brumbies with G&GR

Andy Friend

Andy Friend

From the team’s inception, the Brumbies have always seemed to have a strong culture, perhaps not always positive, but a strong culture all the same. When you look back on teams of the past and the coaches that have lead the Brumbies, you can almost align a particular culture with each coach.

For the Macqueen era, it was based on innovation and challenge, Fast Eddie brought a hard-edged professionalism that delivered the first Super 12 title to the province. The Nucifora era was one of player power and independence, which not only saw another Super 12 title won by the team, but also cost the coach his job.

Dicking around over: team vs France

Adam Ashley-Cooper puts JO’C on the bench and Shmoo Mitchell’s back for Hynes in a pretty logical starting 15. The openside division of the team remains strong though with Waugh and Pocock making the bench.

Oh, and still no LT or Tim Tam. For full team Read more »
