Aussie Robbie Deans Interview on Inside Rugby

If you’re not sick of hearing all about the Wallabies’ glorious new coach Aussie Robbie Deans, then here’s a great clip put Edited by Moses over at Go The Tahs from Inside Rugby on Fox.

While there’s not too much in it that’s earth shattering, I guess it’s interesting to actually hear the guy speak rather than just hold aloft the Super 14 trophy. The point that he’s a ‘hands on’ coach comes across loud and clear.

What I like is his point is that rugby is rugby pretty much anywhere. Commentators keep talking about ‘cultural differences’ in the way the game is played in Oz vs NZ, but they sound like excuses to me. I can see no reason why he shouldn’t be able to inject some of the hard clinical edge the Crusaders have into this Wallaby team.

For example it was great hearing Giteau say he was looking forward to learning from the guy who shaped Carter into the player he is today. This approach seems to be less about picking guys because of their stats and more about how you can develop them as players.

I also liked hearing Kearnsey & Marto bag out Kiwis, good to see some things never change…..
