The Brumbies 2016 season is over after they went down to the Highlanders 15-9 in a tough battle in Canberra tonight. The Highlanders defence was too much for the Brumbies as they held them tryless and scored two of their own to progress to the semi finals and snap a 10 year losing streak in Canberra. The Match The Brumbies were immediately on the back foot from a Highlanders scrum with an overlap with only scrambling defence keeping the Highlanders out but a series of penalties right near the try line saw the Highlanders open the scoring a penalty goal…

The Brumbies have limped their way into the finals with a scratchy 24-10 win over the Force in Canberra. The Force showed they wouldn’t roll over easily in the last game of the season but couldn’t take advantage of their early dominance to finish a disappointing 2016 season. The Match There wasn’t much to keep the crowd excited about in the opening 15 minutes with the Brumbies off to their usual slow start with the Force getting the better of the territory and possession but couldn’t come away with anything on the scoreboard for their dominance. The crowd did spring…

Now that the result over in Auckland is known, the Brumbies need just a bonus point to book their place in the finals for 2016. That all seems fairly straight forward but like last week, the Brumbies have been in this position before and stumbled at the final hurdle and suffered an embarrassing loss. In 2013, the Brumbies rolled into Perth just needing to beat the Force to avoid the scenic route to the finals but came up short. Hopefully they have learnt a harsh lesson from that match and also after last weeks disappointing result in the heavy loss…

The Brumbies chances of making the finals have suffered a blow with a 40-15 defeat to the Blues in Auckland tonight. It wasn’t anything like last week, with the Brumbies their own worst enemy and effectively out of the game within ten minutes and unable to catch up and adds to the hoodoo when the Brumbies and Blues meet near the finals. The Match The opening kick off summed up the Brumbies night with Nigel Ah Wong knocking on right from the kick off to put them under pressure. They managed to hold out for a few minutes with the…

The finals are edging closer and the equation is simple for the Brumbies if they are to make it – win their remaining games. This scenario was eerily similar in 2012 when these two sides faced off in the final game of the regular season only for the Brumbies to stumble at the final hurdle and miss out so this time around there won’t be any complacency knowing what’s at stake. This time the game is over in Auckland and the Blues might not be in contention for the finals but can have a big say in the final make…

The Brumbies have marked the return to Super Rugby with a strong 43-24 bonus point win over the Reds in Canberra. The Reds led the match early 10-0 but couldn’t keep pace with the Brumbies in the second half in the six tries to three win. The Match It was a very scratchy start for both sides with a number of turnovers in the opening minutes not allowing either side to get any rhythm that also saw Brumbies rookie Ben Hyne having to leave the field after just five minutes with an ankle injury. Liam Gill was keen to make…

The Wallabies have suffered a 3-0 series whitewash after going down to England in a pulsating nine try Test in Sydney 44-40 tonight. It was a much improved Wallabies game after Melbourne with Sean McMahon a stand out but England took their chances to continue their winning streak under Eddie Jones to nine. The Match It was a great opening stanza as both sides felt each other with England coming out on top as they won the early territory battle. George Ford and Jonathan Joseph were heavily involved for the visitors, keeping the Wallabies on the back foot, not helped…

The Test season may be upon us but there will be two Aussie Super Rugby teams represented with the Brumbies and Western Force competing at the World Club 10’s tournament in Mauritius this weekend. When the venue was announced, there were rumours of a step up in intensity at training for those in the mix and let’s be honest, there are worse places to hold a junket tournament at this time of year. The tournament sees eight teams compete in two pools with the other teams being The Sharks, Toulon, Stade Francais, Asia-Pacific Dragons, Saracens and an Italian All Star…
