The Brumbies came to Suncorp looking to maintain their impressive record at Suncorp. Given their season, it was clear they were going to be up against it. The Brumbies got first points after a high tackle was penalised. Giteau kicked it, taking first points. The Reds went straight back up the other end and were awarded a penalty. Quade kicked it, levelling the score. The same thing happened again and after 10 minutes, it was 6-all and no one was winning. Was the Brumbies game plan to kill Rugby? After Gits kicked another, to give the Brumbies the lead, they…

I was taking another look at the Reds win over the Crusaders last night. As I sat there watching, I vomited a little. I wasn’t sure why at first, just a sick feeling, a little bit later it happened again. I was pretty sure it was nothing in my herbal tea making me feel ill, so I rewound the vision and sure enough, it happened again… and I saw the reason why… Presenting: Dirty Frank I wonder if any of the Reds remember being tackled by the tackle hand?

An Australian-record crowd braved the damp Brisbane afternoon to watch the much-anticipated clash between the table topping Reds and the Crusaders. Whether they had come riding a red bandwagon, come to see Sonny Bill Williams, come anticipating being there for the Reds’ twelfth straight Suncorp win, or just because they don’t get to see the Crusaders much since moving over with the family, it didn’t matter – they had come. Just as the anticipation had reached a peak, Dan Carted kicked off; it was taken cleanly by the Reds and kicked straight out by Quade, ensuring it went into the crowd.…

Given the way people are gushing over Sonny Bill, I am going to talk about other things. So, Looking back to the corresponding match last year and it’s amazing to see the difference. In round 2 last year, the Reds fresh off another loss to the Waratahs, the rugby public were given the first real signs that things under a new head coach were changing for the better north of the Tweed. Under Ewen McKenzie, the Reds secured their first win over the Crusaders since 1999 with a 41-20 thumping, including a Reds record for most individual points with 31…

Last night the Reds showed their title credentials by knocking off the Blues to take top spot on the overall Super Rugby table. In what has become 2011 standard practice for the Queenslanders, they answered their critics’ latest barb — they hadn’t beaten a Kiwi team and couldn’t be taken seriously until they did — by bringing the Blues’ seven-game winning streak to an end. The Reds had looked a little scratchy since winning the Templeton Cup from the Waratahs and it was beginning to look like nine straight games was a little too much. But they proved they rise…

No, it isn’t Bathurst weekend and Holden isn’t taking on Ford – it’s better than that. Forget conference standings: this is the overall number one and two SupeRugby teams playing off. It’s something of a finals preview for the fans, and for one of the teams it’s going to be a big confidence booster. This season has been one of breakthroughs for the Reds. They have built on the momentum from last year and started making some history. They have nine wins from 11 starts, including a record streak of seven wins, making 2011 their most successful Super season in…

Gagger, Barbarian and Mr Timms show they don’t need a star to shine. After a review of the week that’s been, they look at the issues in the game this week and rise to the challenge of picking a current Wallaby XV under one strict rule: players have to be fit and available to play this weekend. The theme song is Bon Jovi with the mighty “Livin’ On A Prayer”, not because of the Wallaby selection policy but because, you know, we’re halfway there, you know, in the Super Rugby…. Find out who they selected for their first XV for…

There has been a lot said about this match and I’m not going to go over it again. The top of the Australian conference going head-to-head, it was the Festival of Hate and the next game in the Tahs’ double slam mission… wait, I did start. Sorry, it was that sort of game. Honestly though, the biggest questions waiting to be answered were whether Tatafu Polota-Nau would run out with a slick new hair cut after his Two Blues got up over Warringah this afternoon in Sydney, and would that mean he ‘d lose his powers like Samson? But…

One of the best features of the new Conference system adopted by SANZAR for the SupeRugby tournament is that we get return bouts in our grudge matches. The first of these happens in Oz this weekend, and it couldn’t happen to a better pair of teams: two that have traditionally shown understanding and togetherness over the years, New South Wales and Queensland. This is a match-up that rarely requires much added spice; the fact that they are playing each other is usually enough. But as usual, there is spice, from the Radike Samo accusation that Tatafu Polota-Nau is…

No one was sure what physical condition the Reds would be in after their long return flight from South Africa, but if you were listening to the team on Twitter it was clear they were feeling OK. What tougher test could there be to follow an undefeated tour of the Republic than a visit from defending champions the Bulls? They knew they were going to be up against a team with its nose out of joint after being embarrassed by the Crusaders last week. In the replay of last year’s season-defining match, it was all there to play…

The Reds are back from their triumphant tour of South Africa, ready to take on competition heavyweights the Bulls. This game is a similar prospect to their coming-of-age match last year, only this time the boys from Ballymore are chasing a record sixth straight win. Like last year, the Bulls are nearing the end of their tour of Australia and New Zealand and the Reds are fresh off the long haul back from the Republic. By fresh, I mean not fresh at all: possibly jetlagged as hell , and facing a relatively relaxed and rested opposition. To leave…
