Well done, and it's the people like you making it happen that are the lifeblood of clubs. If you can keep these boys for a few years in colts I am sure some success will come.

Apparently the 2016 Uni 1st Colts were undefeated. Penrith went the closest and nearly beat them.

So they can definitely put competitive teams on the paddock.

But the real question is where are most of those Penrith players now? as a lot of them were still U18 in 2016 and could still be in colts now.
Hint: look in the team lists of some of the other clubs.
There in lies a big part of the issue.

Some observations from today's Penrith V Gordon stoush out at EMU Headquarters...
  • The game was stopped 20 minutes into the second half with the score line at 122-0. Despite the score line the Penrith lads did not lay down. Uncontested scrums throughout.
  • Apart from the blow out of such magnitude not being a good optic for the comp/Rugby and soul destroying for the players, there were I'm sure, a range of safety issues related to player "time on the pitch". There were quite a few players that backed up and featured in all three grades.
  • Penrith have some very strong and talented footballers but the teams lack structure and fitness. Things that can be fixed with training but it appears (according to one Penrith official) the lads don't train they just show up on Saturday to have a crack. Not hard to understand why talented players are attracted to other clubs if they want to make something of their footy.
  • The Emu Burger, with its inch thick patty of minced flightless native animal, slabs of porcine quadruped, fried egg and drizzled with the EMU's "secret sauce" is a true one off and unlikely to be replicated any time soon at a BBQ near you.

I agree William 88, NSW needs to have active Rugby Union recruitment drives out west for sure! and also need to flush some coaching, management, financial assistance and other resources to help these existing clubs survive.

What these young rugby players DON’T need is to feel dispirited week after week!

Whilst Randwick have been guilty of recruiting players from outside their junior base in previous years, Saturday's 1sts Colts team v Warringah was actually made up of 10 local juniors who played for Clovelly, Coogee, South Coogee and Eastgardens when they were young. The 2nds and 3rds Colts teams are also full of local juniors who have returned to play for their local club. They have always been a strong age group coming thru the juniors and school competitions with the majority of them attending Waverley College, Newington and Marcellin College.

Yes.there are still players who have been offered scholarships etc, but it's great to see that the majority of the boys playing this year have returned to their senior club after wearing the myrtle green as juniors.

What's happening at West Harbour Colts?
3rds forfeited today, 2nd grade lost a front rower after 5 minutes and didn't have a replacement so we had uncontested scrums all game.
Wicks rested most of their Colts 1sts and but still piled on over 100 points.
