While I'd be happy to see no change from the first test side I'd make the following minor adjustments:

1. Sio
2. Latu
3. Kepu
4. Coleman
5. Rodda
6. Samu
7. Hooper
8. Pocock
9. Genia
10. Foley
11. Koroibete
12. Beale
13. Kuridrani
14. DHP
15. Folau

16. BPA
17. Robertson
18. Tupou
19. Simmons
20. Tui
21. Timu
22. Phipps
23. Hodge

Yeah or even to just create some discussion about it! The lineout did go a bit better when he came on but maybe it's worth sticking with BPA if he's seen as the better longer term option.

I reckon Cheika will be very tempted to trot out the same team. Pretty much everyone played well.

If Arnold is to come into the side I think it is for Rodda. I can't see Simmons being replaced on the bench because I think he's the second lineout caller.

I think BPA will be retained and having another week should really help him with his lineout work. It's easy to forget how little time he would have had training on the lineout during the week.

What really impressed me re Test I and answered my pre-game question - what has the Wallaby coaching team learnt since June 2016's disaster if anything? - was the obvious calibre of improved technical coaching in virtually all aspects of Wallaby play bar kicking from hand (which apparently is an impossible skill to teach Australia's elite rugby players) and line-out.

There was a clear, consistent game plan that (largely) worked - tick
Defensive structures, technique, offensive defence, intensity of application across whole squad - tick
Technical skills in ruck work re effective clean-out, use of pods, good turnover rate, etc - tick
Low error rate in passing accuracy and speed, knock ons, dropped balls - tick
Coherence and discipline of 'total attack' (vs our classic 'one outs' reliance on a few stars and the rest a mess) - tick
Tolerable rate of penalties yielded - tick
Capability to play at high intensity for 80+ minutes - tick
Scrum - solid to outstanding - tick
Cheika cutting the counter-productive hyper-emoting, ref-blaming and seeming calmer (ie, way better for balanced team temperament) - tick

If the above Wallaby coaching capability as rendered in the team's performance is broadly sustained in Tests II and III we will start to look like a consistent team that can (a) consolidate our wider rugby fan base's desire in buying Test tickets and (b) move towards being credible for a chance at a BC win in 2018 and (c) ditto credible for a solid RWC '19 performance.

My bad Poite has SA and England, thankfully.

So i wonder, what would we consider a successful series? We've already secured a win against the second best team in the world, which is a much better start to the last two years.

I always want the Wallabies to win obviously, but how good would a series decider in Sydney be?

I wouldn't change the team at all.

BPA was sneaky good on the weekend, he slowed up a tonne of Irish ball without being penalised. Timu never really got a chance with ball in hand, but his defence and ruck work was good too.
.
Having watched the game again it looked as though Timu was very good defensively and quite effective at the lineout. He will be better for the run and will carry the ball well when the opportunity comes.
I think it might be worth giving TK a run at 13. Samu K. was ok but did make some telling errors in defence and was at times lost in attack. He also did some good things but TK will be more consistent in general and add to our new defense mantra. The only other change I might consider would be reverting to a 5-3 bench and including Maddocks or Banks for 20 minutes at the end of the test.

Do you flick Samu or Tui?

I think we have more to gain by having both of those boys coming off the bench and keeping the intensity high than we do bringing Maddocks or Banks in.

I’d stick with the same team 23 (perhaps swap Latu with BPA or Tui for Timu but no real need imo) as I see it being the same sort of tight physical contest which the guys last Saturday demonstrated they were up for. If we can get a win then change it up a bit in Sydney with some more attacking options like Banks/Maddocks on the bench.

We were burned a bit by the 6/2 split at the end of the game when Beale went down with a shoulder injury.

He had to stay on the park when he clearly didn't want to be there. Made a couple of tackles in that time too, but it could have been really bad.

That's true but it was probably as much a function of the fact that we'd used all our subs as it was the 6:2 split.

Um, do we just never jump at any line-out ever?!
We can not have Samu, Hooper and Pocock in the same back row, even if we have the best line-out locks in the world, quality can only take you so far without quantity.

Cheika isn't going to make any changes to the XV, but the only spots he'd think of change are where the bench player players themselves into the XV or out of the 23.
Tupou is probably the only bench player who might be getting off the bench, there is a very slim chance Hodge comes in at 11 for Koro, and even slimmer that Simmons comes in somewhere to sure up the line-out.

The bench will probably go back to a 5/3 bench perhaps dropping Simmons given he had 6 tackle attempts and 2 misses, but Tui is the low hanging fruit. Not sure who the back who comes in to the 23 but likely Jack Maddocks because of his versatility.
