Reds 2019

This does not speak well for those responsible for the timing and the selection.

Of course not. Brad Thorn fans & critics can both agree how incompetent the QRU has been at top of the executive ranks.

But what’s done is done. Brad Thorn now has the full 12 months to build a playing roster and get them ready for battle next January/February when the super rugby season kicks off.

If I could take a wild guess... don’t be surprised if Brad Thorns attack coach comes from his playing days with crusaders or Highlanders... some handy retired playmaker from across the Dutch.

Glad to have Carozza back in a job he was really good at... with the reds academy!

Pleased to see his name mentioned wherever it may emanate from - you may recall P Blake achieved significant improvements under Deans in the Wallaby defence record when he moved there from, IIRC, the Force in around c. 2010. (I'm assuming you do mean Phil Blake, and not Mooney...)

Yep, Blake not Mooney:

Thorn is not expected to rush the appointment of Carozza’s replacement but it is understood one of the potential coaches on his list is former Wallabies defence and skills coach under Robbie Deans, Phil Blake.

Blake later served in the same roles at Western Force — where he was named interim head coach in 2012 — before venturing to the Leicester Tigers as defence coach.

I hope that they look closely at his track record then. It appears that Blake went to Leicester in England as a defence coach lasted a season and got banned for betting on games involving his team, then got picked up by Wasps as defence coach and was let go at the end of his contract in May this year after he came in for criticism after below par defensive displays.

Blake was a great attacking league player but his defence was pants. Not sure how that translates to his coaching though.

Funny then that he gets gigs as primarily a defence coach. Anyway, defence is meant to be McGahan and Thorn's areas I thought. Looking at Blake's coaching history it all seems to be defence, apart from coaching Manly in Sydney club comp for a season and was meant to coach in the NRC but he took up the Leicester defence coach job.

He came to union when we were adopting league style defence systems. I guess he talked well and new the sysyems.

To which the appropriate response is: 'Charlton Heston need not apply'.

Given Thorn's movements with the roster, it will be interesting to see who will get the attack gig.

Really can't see anyone with significant experience unless they are in the McGahn mould. A rookie or a friend of the board who is essentially unemployable as a coach.

I really hope we aim for a little higher than this. I also hope we cast the net a little wider than the carpark this time.

My other football passion is the Rabbitohs. The coach this year has the team really firing, totally turned the Bunnies around. Why can't we have this at the Reds, Souths prove it is not impossible?

Ever since the Rabbitohs were purchased by Crowe they were turned from a sports club into a business that happens to play sport. They got professional, new coaches, better training facilities, better support staff etc etc. They allowed famous club legends like George Piggins to not influence decisions and chose the best person for the job. They also were not afraid to choose players and coaches that had no ties to the club, they just were good at their job.

The Reds are held back by loyalties to former players and owed favors.

RA circling. Reds about $6,000,000 in the tin.

Great financial management by Miller and his team.

I thought I'd never say it but best case is RA take over the Reds, fire Miller and a couple on the Board, particularly ex player who has no idea, sack some coaching staff and entrenched admin staff and move on.

Rebuild a proper QUEENSLAND culture, something to be proud of, somewhere where players want to come (whilst still producing our own), supporters want to support.

Did Jeff Miller steal your car park once?

Scrubber ... is that $6m in debt a guess or known information??

I mentioned on the 2018 thread that the Jeff Miller move looked alot like him stepping in as a quasi administrator (in an insolvency sense) - he seems to be acting as both Chair and CEO for the moment. This would make sense if the financial situation is at this point.

For me the best case scenario would be a private party purchasing the Reds and running a professional organisation that cares about winning and not about fabled Queensland culture.

Supporters want a winning team, we could have a team with no Queenslanders but if we won then the crowds will still come, lets face it we regularly have teams made up of persons from overseas, interstate or from other sporting codes in our teams and I dont really hear any comnplaints.

Winning inst everything, its the only thing.

Good piece of humour there Reg ! Well done.

I hate inept people being put in a job more or less for the reason he was a fairly good rugby player.

That's like putting a good coal miner in charge of BHP !

Thanks mate.

Where’s the ineptness? From a previous gig?

He's doing a pretty good job of it ATM !

I'll never forget a comment little Johnnie Howard said about Kevin Rudd a few short months into Rudd's Prime Ministerial spot when he was asked how Rudd was going.

"I think the job is a little too big for him"

Is the point of that allegory.......... who cares what some useless old dinosaur has to say about you?
