Early season predictions on premiers:
13A - IGS - HUGE boys
14 A- BSHS have gone past BBC with some handy additions
15 A- NC -the big improvers-and have beefed up their backline;
16 A- BBC -from what I can see only 3 or 4 have gone up from that brlliant eam of last year;
2nds - NC/BBC -neither have lost a match this year(and both dished up ACGS 2nds which TSS struggled to do)
1sts NC to just beat TSS ...................then daylight.Yes TSS were frightening on Saturday-but this crucial match is at Ross oval & NC have better depth.I actually have real concerns that later in the year (when injuries affect some weaker teams)there will be some big blowout scores (which has not happened since 2014)

Also there are a lot of very talented boys moving from WA to Qld on scholarships -NC 10,TSS 10 ,GT 13-will we keep them ?
I hear TSS 10 is off to Crusaders ,

As I understand it, it’s still unknown how badly the boy from Terrace has been injured. I’m told he’s in an induced coma and they won’t know the damage for sometime. I can only imagine the distress on his family and mates. Really do hope he comes through.

Just to put some good news out there one of TGS Boys is out of hospital and was at the rugby on Saturday walking around only a week after been operated on, they are expecting a full recovery but will take a bit of time.
Lets hope this is positive for the other two boys.

TGS 2nds look very good and are sharp
TGS 1sts I think are going to be a handful and a headache and may just be the competition spoilers.
A lot of depth there this year something which has been lacking in the past.

Best wishes to the GT boy who got injured.I am told it was a scrum collapse.
BW -I do not know enough about the younger teams to comment.But having been at Miskin on Sturday & having watched the TSS tape -I can say this.
I saw 2nd half of 2nd xv match & BBC 2nds forwards were big/mobile /aggressive. I think it was 28 nil.But 2nd xv rugby always depends on injuries in firsts.Don't count your chickens early.

In the 1st xv:
-BBC run all the time /run from everywhere game plan(think Fijian sevens) is exciting and the back 3 are sizzling -but they make mistakes and fall off tackles.I am pretty sure 14 & 11 both scored on opposite wings. Will that work against NC/TSS??;
-GT -I take my hat off to you.Down 24-6 at halftime with 30% possession-you had no right to be in the match;
-Disappointed in BBC forwards -they did not dominate a smaller pack and ball skills were average;
-The TSS 10 has better game management and far better kicking game than BBC 10. When you are up 24-6 and have 2 fastest wingers (see T&F times) in the comp-kick to corners & close out the match.That is what BBC 12 did that & that put the match out of reach.
-How did QRU let TSS 10 go to NZ??
- TSS /NC -match will decide premiership

BBC v GT 2nds was 19-0, considering what happened I am surprised to hear the GT players kept the scoreline that low. I hear they also blew several scores and could have easily made more of a game of it.

Nudgee's seconds touched up the BSHS boys pretty badly 41-0. There are some units in that team, pretty handy forward pack and some pace out wide. (though apparently BBC and TSS are bigger).

I see that on the website, I don't trust it, there's been a few incorrect scores over the years. I've seen the notice of results from Terrace yesterday at lunch with one of the school's coaches and it says 19-0. Three people who were at the game were there yesterday and all three say it was 19-0.

Sadly the website has the BSHS result correct.

They might not of, and he could well come back as I know Crusaders don't actually sign contracts with kids still at school, he will just be going to Crusaders academy probably. Not a bad move for the kid! I would be looking pretty hard at TSS's 9 & 12 if I was looking at kids for Academies too!

Awful blunder from Queensland Rugby if this is true. Another one to represent Australia at a junior level but snapped up by a New Zealand Academy system. Several have happened over the last few years so I hope this isn't true

Thanks BW you always have good mail but appreciate you run through your U15 prediction - didn’t NC lose to BSHS on Saturday and that BSHS year lost 3 games in U14 last year so they would be struggling for favouritism this year regardless.

Also beware of GT this Saturday their U15 were good last weekend infact GT very strong in most of the age groups A teams who improved for and against a lot from last year.

I am sure Terrace will be “quietly waiting” for the Nudgee Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band this Saturday at Tenny Son

-GT -I take my hat off to you.Down 24-6 at halftime with 30% possession-you had no right to be in the match

It was 17-6 at half time and it’s probably reasonable to expect that BBC would have been up by at least 1 x additional try

You are right in that they didn't really have any right to be in the match and the only reason they were was courtesy of a howler of a decision to award a try to GT 12 who had the ball knocked loose from his arms well before the line . Photos tell the story.

GT did put a passage together directly from that restart where they fairly beat the broken defense and scored - the only occasion they really threatened the defense - but the adjusted score line really should have and would have been much different if not for that deferred decision to the touch judge that was directly responsible for a 14 point swing.

Rumour touchie was not even in line with play and someone even said GT old boy? Feeling the pressure

Hmmmm. Yes well , I didn't want to bring up something so unsavoury :) but yes this is what I was told

The Ref is mic'd up on the Double Take footage and you can hear the exchange between he and the touch judge

It's pretty funny

Agree
I believe that although BBC dominated the game (apart from the 5 minutes where Tce scored twice) I actually don't think BBC played as well as they are capable of, I mean the coaches would be happy with the win but not the missed opportunities and that's scary for the rest of the comp.
BBC back three have got to be the quickest in the league, Carters game management was a little conservative for mine or they would have run riot, BBC backline was too flat and once this adjusts watchout, the set piece is solid particularly the lineout, it's just seemed like they were going through the motions having met the GT team a couple of times already in trials I believe.
GT please don't let the 5 min highlight reel gloss over the errors GT were at times woeful with basic catch pass, and this needs to addressed so the talent in the backline can do their stuff, they had no go forward runners were receiving the ball standing still, and the GT kicking game is very limited, but they do have a lot of ticker and with improvements to come that should be enough to carry the to a few wins

Don't think anyone present would have been overly enthusiastic over the performance of the men in orange and both teams would have reason to feel hard done by. The sooner our officials realise that people don't come to rugby matches to watch them adjudicate the better. Doubt either team got into double figures on the phase count.

Also doubt either team would be happy with their first up performance, obviously BBC at least had something to smile about coming away with a win, but both teams below par.

GT were just plain terrible.....simple things like not numbering up in defence , passes going into touch (but not penalty kicks!)and unforced knock-ons were very hard to watch . They should not have been in the game, but somehow managed to ( even if it was through a knock on ) .

BBC will need to be a lot better. They had a lop sided penalty count and the bulk of possession in the first half ( plus an incompetent opposition ) and only created two tries from long range through the speed of their back three. For all of their possession , they didn't look like creating much else. The same could be said for the second half , although the opposition had improved a little by then. Carter looks like he is playing injured, I'm guessing from the leg injury he picked up in Sydney. I don't doubt his toughness , but he might struggle to make it through the season the way he seems to be travelling.

Anyway , my point is both teams will need to be a lot better to put any pressure on TSS & NC.

Well you guys will have them first ( The Nudge that is ) so good luck this Saturday

I don't think they are as daunting as what everyone is making out and I think they are more heart /will driven in the forwards rather than being reliant on a huge gulf of talent / ability advantage

However , Pasiota is Pasiota -a genuine talent , and Flook , Robbins and Atkinson are way more underrated ( undeservedly so IMO ) than their Terrace counterparts

I'm making the early call of NC by 25
