QLD GPS Rugby 2018

GT just went up 30-7 with the try of the season so far, at least from what I’ve seen. BSHS haven’t been able to get in the game at all, much like last week.

... and it’s 39-7 just like that. Gee Nudgee and BBC must have been class to beat this team. This GT performance is much better than TSS last week.

NC's Jangala Bennet (5), BBC's Xavier Savage (4) and TSS' Ronan Kapi (3) are leading the stakes, but don't discount TGS No.8 Ronin Hassall, who went within a bee's dick of consecutive hat-tricks on Saturday. His official count is two tries, but at this rate he'll add some more and in a hurry.

I wrote a column on the subject here: https://www.couriermail.com.au/spor...y/news-story/3a790bed67b6ef3b417bfa744c566da1

Enjoy the weekend everyone and to the players ghosting on the forum, stay safe!

Great article King.
So is 17 tries the record?Surely someone in that BSHS of 2008?(who put over 60 on several schools) beat that .Or did Chris FS etc share it around ?[/quote]

Banjo just got his 4th try for today alone for NC - 50-0

I’m waiting to see what the fuss is all about from Toowoomba Grammar currently it’s 62-12

Full Time: TSS 67 - TGS 12 - A total embarassment for TGS conceding 50 points in the second half.
A few heads may roll given the strong performance of the TGS Seconds.

This is terrible news, another boy with an injured neck. What a Terrible season it’s been in that regard.

I watched both those games yesterday the TGS 1st's and the TGS 2nd's against TSS. Other than a couple of standout players in the 1sts ie the 8 /7/5. The TGS seconds could easily slot into the 1st's and in many cases perform equal to or better than. TSS put on a master class yesterday, there was no doubt, I thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle. The TGS boys actually just forgot their basics a little ie simple tackles, line speed and the ball movement was slow, everything was just a little lateral and lethargic. They just dropped their heads in the second half and were looking for the bus. Hopefully, they regroup because next weekend will be another tough day out.

Downlands 9 ( Kai Duggan ) and 15 ( Mac Grealy )were class.

For mine probably their best

Reece Meir ( ? ) QLD 2 lock was playing 6 yesterday and never stopped trying and 7 ( ? ) also kept at it the whole game

Downlands have some talent - don’t worry about that but depth is probably more the issue

Their 16’s were great - really stuck it to BBC with top shelf defensive commitment that frustrated the visitors all game - but they definitely had some go’ers and as a team they were prepared to get stuck in

Blow out scores all round . GPS is a two tier comp

Interesting comment

Maybe

But I wouldn’t underestimate the power of good Coaching and management to bridge the gap , and , guys that may not have the physical presence or reputation but are lion hearted in what they do and genuinely want to compete and accomplish something together.......

Combine these 2 X factors - and get it right - and it’s good enough to take down anybody on the day

Was at TSS yesterday, and as a newbie to watching GPS rugby I was again stunned by the level of play that TSS get too, geez they well coached. TGS I thought stuck to it, but had run out of legs just after halftime. One of the big differences between the 2 teams styles I thought was TGS looked like they had a lot of boys that had played league and took the ball into contact too often, where as the couple of times I have seen TSS, they are masters of using the ball to do the work! The performance of Parata at 10 was so bloody mature, he spread the ball wide early on and in 2nd half when TGS were starting to tire he just rammed it home by kicking for the corners etc. I like the look of most of TSS players, No8 certainly got the goods, and have to say was a little impressed with the boy at 13!
Mate said as we left probably best idea I have had this year was to follow GPS rugby, as I think what wee have seen so far is probably most enjoyable rugby we have seen in Qld!

Agree 100%, and from what i saw on the weekend, the TGS issues that lead to the blowout were absolutely able to be coached away. Dan54 the reason a lot of those TGS took the ball into contact was mainly due to the defensive line speed of TSS and the ball speed of TGS. They had no other choice but to take the contact as it was on them before they were aware. TSS execution of their intended game plan was first class.
