Melbourne Rising 2018

Rohan Saifaloi from Southern Districts would be worth a look. I've always wondered why he's never had an opportunity at a higher level.

Outplayed David Horwitz in SS a couple of years ago when Horwitz was then being touted as the next big thing for the Tahs. Not sure that's a good recommendation now, given that Horwitz hasn't seemed to kick on as expected and is now out of favour it seems with most Tahs supporters. But, I agree, would be worth looking at Saifaloi.

From the highlights package it looks like he has plenty of time on his hands, which is always a hallmark of the best 10s. Can’t gather much about if he has quick hands or not but I guess we will find out. Good luck to the kid.

Melbourne Rising Coaches for 2018 - Eoin Toolan and Pom Simona. Well done gents.

With Craig moving to Honda Heat, I wondered who from the FT staff would replace him. Must admit, I didn't pick Eoin as a coach. His high-performance skills would have come in handy when picking a squad. Perhaps he has coaching ambitions, I dunno.

Anyone know when the squads will be announced? With club rugby finishing up in Melbourne this week it would have to be soon

From an Irish site:
Toolan has also been gaining coaching experience throughout his time with the Rebels, working with the franchise’s U20 team and in the NRC with the Rising.
The 2018 Super Rugby season also saw Toolan’s role with the Rebels expanding to take on responsibility for their kicking strategy and exits.

I'd imagine the blokes in the Rising squad (plus probably extras) are all currently training. Announcing the squad is just a press release.

Rebel man I tweeted the Rebels this morning to ask when the squad will be announced. No response yet. But as Oztimmay says probably waiting until after Dewar Shield GF.

Why have the 2 Queensland teams been announced for weeks now, but no others?

Probably a few reasons.

-QLD teams are both managed by the QRU and unlike the rest of the Australian sides the reds were out of finals contention before the test break, so the focus could shift to NRC sooner.
-The QRU manages two sides so there is more room for potentials to make it in from the club sides and that means they have enough to be training with even without the finals bound players and super players taking a break.
-For all their failings the QRU have always been right on top of their NRC management so it shouldn't be too surprising they got in ahead of everyone else

yeh have to admit the Reds have had the best management of their involvement and teams in NRC - and probably also contributes to why seeing such good young talent coming into Reds system as the way they manage NRC helps them on that front.

Tells me NRC pathway working well for the Reds.....

I watched some yesterday's live stream of the GF. The commentators mentioned that the squad would be announced this week.

Jake has played nrc before for Brisbane City and also has a mighty boot on him. Glad he’s getting an opportunity.

According to sources up here Jake was told 6 weeks ago he was playing for the rising to earn a spot in the rebels super rugby squad. Also offered in Sydney and in Brisbane. Tonight 1 week out from NRC kick off he has been told no spot in the Rising Squad. There is no excuse for young players to be treated like this . Disgusting
