What does everyone expect. Isn’t our rep program inadequate. I realise this is a different situation but the players themselves have given up on pathways via representing SIRU. A team of players unavailable could have easily accounted for our actual SIRU rep team this year.

Interestingly enough the two current Brumbies staff in the SIRU region are aligned with two clubs (Ag College and Tumut). Who knows if this is right or wrong? They are entitled to play for whoever they want but could their expertise be better for the zone if spread around the clubs?
I believe Nathaniel Mooney from Wagga is currently in the Brumbies Under 16 team.

Agree with your comments but you are unlikely to see any changes - it is a bit unfortunate really
In the past the various Development Officers have played with various Clubs but did go around to other Clubs to help them out - I'm sure Stoltenberg & Burey played with City & CSU but also visited other Clubs - I'm pretty sure that is not happening at the moment which is not good for the Zone and should be rectified
The new Rugby Manager played with Tumut this year and it will be intersesting to see if that continues next season
Personally I don't think its a good look because it puts him and Tumut in an awkward position if there is an on the field or off the field issue concerning Tumut

Maybe this should have been part of the Review of the Competition

Do we really consider that the people involved in those roles are not going to have some form of involvement at a club level or come from "clubland" in some fashion?

Secondly, do we then consider that their involvement with a club affects their ability to do their job?

Fair Point
But Perception can be harmful if it's not hit on the head quickly
I reckon its a good discussion point for SIRU and the Clubs to have at AGM time

The SIRU Referees association is apparently frustrated with the lack of Support from the ACT Refs Association and they are looking in the C/West direction as well
The ACTRRA are volunteer organisation, I'm not sure what support you expect them to provide for the SI Referees mate, I can tell you as the bloke that did the appointments we had plenty of rounds where we couldn't cover games in the ACT region. Would have loved to Referee some SIRU games, but would have left even more holes in our own Union. Can't rob Peter to pay Paul ;)

I think that Rep Rugby is an item listed on the Competition Review forum that Clubs are being asked to respond on line
If Rep Rugby clashes with Competition Rugby the players will generally play for their Clubs
If you change Rep Rugby to either the beginning of the season (Pre Season) or after the season you still run into problem s with such things as a lack of fitness (early in the season) and players not interested in Post Season
I don't think Rep Rugby is a big deal to most players in the Zone - How you change that ? I don't have the answer

Whistle, rugby in NSW has gone downhill since everything has been geared to super rugby. Country Rep rugby included. Country rep rugby should be like it used to be with zones meeting in Sydney on a long weekend. Zones of relatively similar strength play each other etc. The old Country Week. People caught up, played rugby, had fun etc.

Article in the DA announcing new Coaches for Waratahs tnext year - both coaches coached the "undefeated 2nd Grade" side this year
Had a laugh when they were quoted as saying "we don't want to change much" - An Einstein comment if ever Ive read one
"We just want to see those Premierships turning up at our Club each year" should have been the translation
In a world of their own and have been for many years - I sometimes wonder why the lowere grade players don't try and improve their Standard of Rugby at other Clubs but apparently the WINNING Culture at Waratahs is Infectious and has no Boundaries - They deserve more success next year because they didn't get the Womens' Premiership this season - watch out for some CSU Reddies students to be approached in the off season so the 'Tahs can make it 4 out of 4 in 2019
The SIRU Competition is bleeding and eventualyy Waratahs will be playing with themselves in the Finals or will be asked to give points to each rteam before each match next year
The New Coaches have a very tough Job on their hands - nothing like a Big Challenge to improve your Coaching Credentials
No Doubt a Graet, Traditional Club etc etc but something doesn't smell right - maybe the smell of success is to addictive
Go the 'Tahs

Wow, bitter much?! Fair dinkum.

9th December I believe, formal notification to follow through club channels and SIRU Facebook page/website etc.

What are your hot topics folks?

The length of the Competition ( is 14 Rounds enough)
Referee Availability ( it got pretty low this year and is it going to improve)
Has Womens 7s run its race with 15 a Side Rep Teams for Women being selected
Play more Friday Night matches at the start of the season - particularly Wagga teams
Ask Wagga Waratahs to not take any new players in for next season - spread the Talent ?

1. Ask the players and coaches, some are happy with 14 rounds, others aren't.
2. Short answer is no. Long answer takes a lot more explaining.
3. Maybe, what about a 1st and 2nd Grade for Women's rugby?
4. Friday games aren't easy to coordinate, particularly if there are 4 grades.
5. Ha ha. Centralised contracting might work better a la NZ rugby?

The Old South West Competition is back in business for 2019 - Temora, Young, Grenfell, Boorowa, Condobolin, Harden , Cootamundra & Wyalong make up the Comp with 14 Rounds to be played
I think they play 1 Senior Grade in the Mens and a Women's 7s or 15s on match day

That's a bit of a worry for SIRU down the track
So SIRU Juniors Clubs such as Wyalong, Grenfell, Coota, Temora and Young now feeder organisations for the S/West Competition
The SIRU development Officer needs to get in touch with the Brumbies because what is happening doesn't make sense as it stands
In years to come it who knows what Clubs will be in What Competitions - Albury could find themselves very isolated in a couple of years and may have to travel further South for their Mens Comp Games

Sort of get why your saying. However Wyalong and Grenfell have been gone for years, temora coota and young also. New comp doesn’t change that. Also these clubs are just as likely to be back. They all chase greener pastures almost every year, for reasons that benefit themselves and I can’t begrudge them for that, keeps the club alive and players playing. But what about when they change their minds again. Who knows where they’ll end up...

What a fantastic development for those clubs in the new/old SW comp. I think this will be a stable comp. Waratahs obviously aren’t but Rugby in general is struggling in SIRU. None of those SW teams will be rushing to gain entry back into our zone. I don’t think those SW clubs would be concerned about NSW Rugby or ACT Rugby. Neither should we. Rugby in the Riverina should move on from the Brumbies and be self governing. Grass roots rugby should be responsible for its own destiny. Registration fees should be used for the betterment of rugby in the zone in which they are paid etc.

Honestly. What would self governance achieve.
I’m actually interested in what you feel would be gained out of a self governed SIRU with no NSW or ACT affiliation. Also assuming you are talking about independence from RA too?

What does the average senior SIRU player get out of Brumbies affiliation - bugger all I’d imagine. What percentage of a registration fee goes toward ACT affiliation. Players just want a game of rugby on Saturday afternoon. Super Rugby clubs can talent scout junior or young senior players to target if they like. Let grassroots rugby be what it’s meant to be - social. The local participants in the sport are best placed to run and administer rugby in the Riverina.

Who do you think makes up our board?
SIRU is its own entity. By being associated with a state union, either NSW or ACT and RA the “average SIRU player” gets insurance, and a game every week.
I’m assuming you’ve not been to the SIRU AGM previously. Minimal decisions outside of legal liability and insurances are dictated by the state or national union. SIRU board and clubs vote on structures of competitions not the brumbies mate.

I’m all for betterment of things but please tell me how we would be better without RA the ACT or NSW affiliation.

Aside from one team succeeding better than the rest last season what is wrong with SIRU as a zone and why is this caused by our affiliation with ACT rugby or RA.

Correct me if I am wrong but don’t you also moan about the rep pathways in SIRU. How will this increase or improve in your new zero affiliation zone?

Remember guys. We have a pretty good comp. 3 grades at most clubs and an expanding ladies comp. the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Mate didn’t we have a game of rugby every week before Brumbies affiliation. I was under the impression that individual clubs sorted player insurance. What rep pathways. Even the players in this zone aren’t interested in your rep pathways. What percentage of registration fees go to ACT affiliation. I haven’t graced the stateroom at Romano’s for a SIRU AGM. Isn’t that the same establishment that is the major sponsor of the one team succeeding better than the rest. I don’t know if it’s still there but isn’t the Romanos building where the Brumbies office was for a long time. I don’t know what you mean when you say zero affiliation. Don’t we all have a common bond - we play rugby.
