It seems Nonggor was pushed out to make room for Phrancis (who was only selected in the poorly performing QLD II side and based on his performance at Nationals in July, was not selected for Aust or BaBa's side).

Wondering if any of the players (i.e. Nonggor,) were spoken to as to why they were booted out of the side after the NZ and Tonga games, by players who finished Year 12 last year and are now in Developing Academies, or players who were not deemed good enough after the Schoolboy selection process took place.

This whole thing is not making any sense. Where is the transparency in the selection process.

Phrancis is a talented player who didn’t perform at his best at Riverview. On the other hand there were also some obvious standouts who didn’t have the best gps season due to injury or poor team positioning. It is the job of the selectors to assess each potential candidate on their current ability, potential ability and the positional overall rating.

Phrancis did not play down in Sydney for Nationals, he was injured and unavailable for selection.

You don't have to be at School to be selected as some boys take a different path. As long as they are involved in some sort of academic/job pathway and are u18 they are elgible. Tizzano is a real talent too. Good luck to them all

It should not matter. If Aus Rugby sees talent then give these players the opportunity to be selected. Aus Rugby needs to draw talent from wherever they can before league clubs get in first.

ryan crotty - 5'11 and 96kg
anton lienert brown - 6'1 and 96kg
ardie savea - 6'2 and 95kg
damian McKenzie - 5'9 and 81kg
sam cane - 6'2 and 103kg
mike todd 6'1 and 100kg

midfielders and all black 7's since Sir Richie's retirement . obviously all consistently in the collision . McKenzie also in there as a good example

NZ focuses on what you do not what you look like. the aussies ? obviously different and probably more league influenced in what they do more than what they realise

Come on. You do need size in your forwards. That is foolish to say otherwise. Your backs not so much. Size, strength, hit rate with tackles and ball running skills are are necessity in you forwards when competing against the likes of NZ. EVERY BACK NEEDS TO KNOW HOW TO TACKLE AND DEFEND.

Being foolish is when your kid doesn’t make the cut and you blame selectors and impose reasons that RA gets it wrong. I did make a mistake with Phrancis which I quickly realised after I posted and looked back at by game notes. Watching too many live and reply games. My notes for the props in this years AIC and CSS teams for Queensland selections did bring me back to another couple of lads that RA should be looking at for the U18 Aus Schoolboys next year and will be eligible if the criteria has been changed. Does anyone know why John Downes didn’t play for the Barbarians this year following his selection?

^ and I'll bet he has been causing all sorts problems for opposing teams at the breakdown with his mobility.

Saw him play a handful of games last year , plays like a genuine 7 should , no doubt his ability to be a constant "on ball" threat has more to you with his footy brain/ intuition and competiveness rather than size.

Maybe a couple of players called Mcreight and Kibble (Reds 20s) (who are both eligible for U20s next year) have had something to do with it rather than the "SIZE" excuse. Both are highly talented and have already been included in this years Under 20s Wallabies training squad. Should be interesting at the breakdown.

That is the reason. Better talent and potential in these two players.

Interesting opinions from all - I think it's important to remember that there will be other opportunities for boys to prove themselves, if they're truly passionate about achieving goals in their rugby careers. Life does not end after this UK&I tour.

Zane's omission from the touring squad after a strong showing for the Barbarians would be disappointing for him, however he has another year left in a junior-elite program to prove himself. That's arguably a better position to be in than shoe-horning someone who isn't quite ready for the standard into a position where they won't enjoy themselves and burn out.

Phransis' inclusion is based upon his reputation as the strongest scrummager in QLD; technically, anatomically and statistically. He was not able to trial due to injury, and has made a huge impact in the last 2 years on the occasions he was available for Nudgee. He has been given benchmarks to meet throughout the last 6 months by selectors and has surpassed them on every occasion. Leaving an athlete with such incredible potential out of a development program, particularly when skilled Props are few and far between, would be silly.

Moretti has a contract with the Roosters for next year and made the Australian Schoolboys RL team as well as RU.

Both schoolboy teams have tours at the end of the year, guessing RU lost out to RL with Moretti.

A few years ago now players were asked to align with a code before being chosen on a major tour, then of course there was Craig Polla-Mounter who swore allegiance to RU then promptly did a backflip once the Schoolboy's tour was over. So guess no point trying to tie them down ?

Thanks Nomad

That is disappointing to hear, but more so for the other lads whose spot he took in the State team and the Australian Team. Those lads that would have given their left nut for an opportunity to play Rugby Union for their State and their Country.

What are we doing here folks, this process is getting more ridiculous as more information comes to light.

The program that this lad took part in, is a 'National Rugby Union Development Pathway Program", why are we spending time and effort developing players who have contracts in place for league?
Different story if a player has not made up their mind but with a contract in place - why was he selected in the first place.

Again - 2 words - transparency and integrity.

In the best interest of increasing rugby participation throughout Australia, RA needs to continue on its journey to open the door to league players and encourage their involvement in trials for representative teams. It is always a numbers game. Quality players will come if they feel the door is open. Get rid of the red tape.

It maybe the case but all I will say if you currently look at Australia's record as compared to the Kiwi's when identifying talent I think I know who I would be taking more notice of. Also I doubt the Kiwi's would have seen much or anything of Herbert before he went over there and has obviously made a big impression in a very short period to time especially in a place that knows how to turn out flankers.
