Brumbies 2019

Fifita's inclusion gives me a lot of comfort. Makin came good last season, but Ross has not impressed me this NRC, and he'll face even tougher opponents at Super level.

Our first-choice front row should be Sio, Mann-Rea, and Ala'alatoa, with Slipper, Fainga'a, and Makin on the bench. If Makin or Ala'alatoa goes down, then we should bring in Fifita and move Slipper to cover THP.

I think we need to continue starting with Fainga'a........... he was fantastic as the year went on and is a current Wallaby who will be competing for a RWC spot.

Mann-Rea to close out the game, with McInerney to get some solid bench time throughout the season.

I'm happy with either Fainga'a or Mann-Rea to start, I've always had faith in Mann-Rea and Fainga'a needs the time to grow. The best thing about McInerney is that he makes his tackles, throws straight, and hooks the ball, so we're fine even if it comes down to our 3rd choice hooker.

Ok, a five year contract (which I think is too long given the almost certainty of injury etc) in the most important position in the team. Must have made Hooper's contract look like small bikkies.

7As (Allan Ala'alatoa) on a five year contract? Too short for an outstanding prop from the West Juniors Rugby prop factory (6As, Blake, Weeks, Ma'afu x 2, Sio, Lolohea et al), shoulda got a 10 year deal........

Sio at 1, Ala'alatoa at 3. Slipper to the bench. Enever instead of Douglas, Cusack or McCaffery instead of Hyne. Jackson-Hope likely to be ahead of Simone at 12 based on NRC, or play Hawera at 10 and Lilo at 12.

Still getting your LHPs and THPs mixed up Whisperer.

Agree with MarkJ that Sio will start at LHP and Allan Ala'alatoa at THP. Slipper and Makin on the bench.

Definitely one of McCaffery or Cusack in place of Hyne, who is marginal Super standard imo. Enever or Swain on the bench to cover lock, and Lausi Taliauli will compete with Muirhead for a bench spot. I don't have an issue with Simone at 12 and I think his partnership with TK could be a winner.

I might be biased, but I'd have Slipper starting. If he doesn't, I will be very surprised if he's not the regular starter by the end of the season.

Also his best days have been at loose head. Having him at 3. is a waste.

I can see Swain eventually taking over from Enever as the bench lock...........

In fact, I would like to start seeing Lonergan getting more game time off the bench too.

And despite being a Wallaby, I'm almost hesitant to start with Samu due to his lack of size... almost...

Cusack was starting to come along toward the tail end of the season last year, so it will be a tight battle between him and McCafffrey for that bench spot. I somewhat agree that Hyne, despite being a good honest toiler with a high workrate, may not quite cut it at Super level.

Jackson-Hope deserves the 12 jersey on his NRC form - he's miles ahead of Simone on form.

In fact, it's going to be hard to squeeze Simone into the 23...

There's going to be a lot of competition in the back 3, and I could see Speight's guaranteed position come under threat.

Muirhead and Taliauli were both really good in the NRC... Taliauli in particular was quite impressive.

For the first round I would like to see..........

1. Sio
2. Fainga'a
3. Ala'alatoa
4. Arnold
5. Carter
6. Samu
7. Pocock
8. Valetini
9. Powell
10. Lealiifano
11. Pulu
12. Jackson-Hope
13. Kuridrani
14. Speight
15. Banks

16. Mann-Rea
17. Slipper
18. Makin
19. Swain
20. Cusack or McCaffrey
21. Lonergan
22. Hawera
23. Taliauli or Muirhead

I think we're going to have a fluid 23 next season. Lots of horses-for-courses, plenty of exploration of our depth. Very difficult to predict a 23 for the first match, let alone the season.
