Starting to look like a team for the next couple of years or more.
Hopefully Burns can get among the runs and form a solid opening partnership with Harris, and that the middle order put some good innings together. While the bowlers didn't cope so well against the Indians, they are the best we have (with Hazelwood included) and should start to show better form with more game time. Pity about Pattinson's continuing injury problems.
Good luck to both Patterson and Richardson.

Yep, quite happy with that line up. Burns will shore up that top order I think and Patterson is in red hot form, which is when you should be picking a bloke. Richardson has come along significantly this season and I'm also happy to see him in the XI. His bowling at Shield and ODI level has been good enough to warrant selection. Pucovski is a little unlucky but I'm sure he'll feature in the team before too long.
interesting when though with Smith and Warner due back soon enough.
Labuschagne is still the selection I don't really get.

Sri-Lanka 8-122 at dinner. Jhye Richardson has been outstanding with 3-26 from 14, very tempting to think we might have done a bit better against India if he had played. Book him a ticket to England. Cummins supported him very well and Lyon is so dangerous with that extra bounce. Starc is still spraying them everywhere although got better towards the end. The Queensland boys in the cordon have also been flawless.
Batting under lights will be a challenge, so Sri Lanka aren’t out of it. Dickwella has played a nice Pant like innings to get them this far.

All out for 144. Tactics were a bit brain dead for a period and let Sri Lanka get a few bonus runs but well played to Dickwella.

Well even a cursory glance at recent results would prove otherwise, but let's go with Sully's explanation. He's 35 and likely past it.
I really liked Richardson's form - he provided a nice point of difference from the other quicks, and his style looks very suitable to English conditions.
Will the selectors pick him? Probably not. He doesn't bowl 140s and his rig is a 6/10 at best. Starc is the bloke who might be in the firing line, and while his numbers have been good of late he's still erratic and below his best IMO.
Going into an Ashes series with three firebrand quicks might get the juices flowing, but I'd wager we'd get a better outcome with Richardson in the lineup next to Hazelwood and Cummins.

He's played 38 tests, still averages under 35 and his results over the last couple of years have been a disaster. Plus he's 35 years old.
His averages in the last three series he's played have been 26.14 vs India at home, 3.5 vs Pakistan away and 18.37 vs South Africa away.
He has had a couple of strong series in the sub continent (notably Sri Lanka in 2016) and a couple of strong series at home (2017/18 Ashes and 2015/16 vs West Indies). Those series help paper over an otherwise terrible test career.
The home series versus India was his last chance to prove he was up to it at test level for the Ashes and he wasn't. I don't think he'll play another test.
He'll still be a key part of our ODI team and will play at the CWC this year. His white ball cricket has always been way better than his red ball cricket.

I suspect this is a bit of a troll post but Marnus is basically a placeholder for Smith and if he performs in the interim it’s a bonus. Judging his technique and temperament it’s like he’ll play more test cricket a few years down the track so he’ll also gain valuable experience now. Marsh is done in test cricket, let him focus on the white ball stuff where he is damn near world class.
