Apparently after some angst among the playing squad about a lack of games, the Force are organising a game v a World XV to be played on 22 March in Perth. Digby is one player supposedly signed up with others coming.

No Aussie Super Rugby game that night, so well scheduled.

yeah, and they are aware of it. Davies shocked me with his speed in the NRC. I couldn't believe he still has it. They are wrapped with his strength in contact too, but I'd be worried about his defense and decision making (passing).

They are looking at another speedster who would be brilliant, but he's super rugby contracted and there is a couple more hurdles before he can play. Would be amazing though I reckon.

Heard that Tom Wright has turned down an offer in the 7s. Daugunu would be a good pickup if the Reds persist in not picking him.

Western Force spirits not dampened by Global Rapid Rugby delay, says captain Ian Prior

Western Force captain Ian Prior says the delayed start to Global Rapid Rugby has not dampened player spirits as they count down to the "showcase series" that kicks off next month.

The $1million tournament, bankrolled by mining magnate Andrew Forrest, will debut next year.

They were unable to get everything ready after governing World Rugby only gave the go-ahead in late November.

But the Force will still play a dozen matches against teams from Hong Kong, Fiji, Samoa, Singapore and Malaysia - that will compete with others in GRR next season - and a "world select" side picked from those teams with guest marquee players also expected to make appearances.
Games will be played in the Pacific Islands and Asia with others planned for New Zealand and the east coast.
Prior has retained the captaincy from last year's World Series Rugby.

"Being told plans had changed was a little bit of a speed bump at first. Everyone was looking forward to getting the first season up and running," Prior said.
"They were a little bit disappointed but with what is coming up we have something exciting ahead.
"Last year was about fresh faces, establishing the culture and coming together quickly to produce a new product.
"We are proud of what we did and now we have to take the next step."

The squad has trained without a defence coach since the departure of Jaque Fourie who joined the USA Eagles ahead of the World Cup.
A new appointment is imminent but Prior said it had produced more player input.

"We have a strong player-driven squad and a few of the guys took it on themselves to do some research, look at defensive structures, pick up ideas and implement them into training," Prior said.
"It's a bit of a bonus to be honest."

The delay also meant a different approach to the season build-up.
"We pretty much had the whole of December as a break and players were told to come back in good condition," Prior said.
"We put the onus on the players. They were told to keep their bodies right and it worked.
"A few of the guys ran personal best when they came back on day one."

Western Force to face strong ‘World XV’ side to kickstart showcase series

Western Force will kick off the new Global Rapid Rugby showcase series against an invitational “World XV” on March 22 at HBF Park.

The side, coached by former Wallabies coach Robbie Deans, includes a host of former Rugby World Cup winners, international representatives and Super Rugby players including former Force foundation speedster Digby Ioane.
Ten of the squad have Test experience including All Blacks World Cup winning squad members prop Wyatt Crockett, scrum-half Andy Ellis and hooker Corey Flynn. Japanese fly-half Kosei Ono, who played in his country’s famous 2015 World Cup 34-32 win over South Africa, has also been selected.

Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina Japan and Tonga will be represented in the side.

Last year the side beat Japan 31-29 while another win came in 2015 a few weeks before the Brave Blossoms went on to beat the Springboks.

GGR is expected to release its full-season home and away showcase fixture list tomorrow with Force tackling sides based in Fiji, Samoa, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

Force will play six home games at HBF Park, an away match in Queensland and others in Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Welcome back Steve Meehan.

Former Western Force assistant coach Steve Meehan has returned to the Global Rapid Rugby club as defence specialist.

It is a new role for Meehan who has spent much of his well-travelled coaching career as an attack coach, a position he held at the Force under Michael Foley in the 2013 Super Rugby season.

The highly experienced Meehan, who has a reputation for producing exciting rugby, was coach at English heavyweights Bath for five years and led them to the European Challenge Cup win in 2008.

He was an assistant coach at the Queensland Reds, was at Stade Francais when they won three French championship finals and a Heineken Cup and was at another French Top 14 club Toulon.

He coached Queensland Country in the inaugural National Rugby Championship and most recently was with Japanese Top league Kintetsu Liners.
