AIC Rugby 2019

Agree VIK not a bad hit out for a trial in the wet. Score a reasonable reflection of the game. Nil all at half time. my impression was SLC had the edge in the forwards (No. 8 the stand out) but Villa backs can do some damage when forwards get parity (No. 15 the standout scoring the equaliser but more importantly 2 x try saving cover tackles earlier on). Based on last week's Suncorp performance I think Iona might have the slight edge on both these teams.

Tough conditions at Villa park yesterday (the fields were outstanding) but both teams had a real go. Laurie’s have some large humans in their team with Villa looking decidedly younger and smaller but the Villa lads held their own to be fair.

Lots of drop ball and a scrumathon with both teams delivery pretty poor kicking games and missing multiple scoring opportunities.

However, it was willing, with strong efforts buy both teams.

You would have to think both teams with be super competitive in 2019.

Well done to all.

Villa got absolutely destroyed at scrum time - had to go uncontested from about the 25 minute mark.
Both sides lacked any go forward and displayed pretty much no options in red zone attack - admittedly the weather didn't help but definitely hope that changes come round 1 for the sake of AIC rugby.

Was it ground conditions that caused uncontested ?
I saw a lower grade game at UQ on Saturday that went uncontested due to the slippery surface ..?

Padua 29 - 10 Siena College. Padua rotated through a 30 man squad. Next for Padua is St Edmunds on Friday night at Suncorp then in same group as Iona in Ballymore Cup which will be a good indicator of where they are at.

MCA had trials for all age groups Sat, except year 10. Seniors had an internal trial, which looked like it was a 1sts v 2nds rather than a probables v possibles as conducted in the younger year groups. As a result hard to get a proper gauge on how the 1sts will go this year as they won comfortably as you'd expect, although the 2nds certainly put up a fight in what was an entertaining game. The general handling was exceptional considering the wet conditions and I can hardly recall a dropped ball apart from the last play when the 1sts backs bombed a certain try on the last pass, and scrums were well contested. Pick of the forwards was the 1st no.7 who was everywhere, and in the backs Floyd Aubrey was made of teflon. Other than that it looks like a year 10 boy will also get a start on the wing.

Field conditions were fine, plus the second team got through their game with no problems. Colts coaches cant be happy with this, seeing they will have props that went uncontested in their 1st team games the previous year, lets just hope this wont happen in season.
Villa had front line props not available .. one was not playing and the other was substituted 10 mins in first half due to head injury

Looks like MCA are in Christchurch, NZ. 1st game - both 1sts and 2nds had a win, 2nd game - 1sts drew and 2nds won. Their tour ends with their last match vs Otago Boys High.
