AIC Rugby 2019

If the Lauries boys can rally from last weekend and play with the fluidity they did against Eddies they should get on top of Padua by 20 or more.
On paper, Iona should beat Pats but then again Pats are coming off an absolute towelling of Eddies and Iona off of a pretty decisive loss to Villa - so who knows with that one.
Villa should body Peters as they'll be looking to make a statement before their Ashgrove fixture next week, but if they go on with the mentality of saving themselves for next week, the game might be closer than a lot of Villa boys are expecting.
MCA vs Eddies is shaping up to be an absolute massacre. I'm predicting Ashgrove to keep a clean sheet for the 4th game in a row and to get close to triple digits - frightening stuff.
Should be a good weekend of games all round. Pats vs Iona probably gonna be game of the round (was an exciting one last year)

Full time at Indooroopilly Villa 52 Peters 19. Scrappy messy sort of game. Maybe Villa were thinking about next week. Gave Peters a sniff through some poor execution and silly penalties. I think the score was 24- 12 at halftime. 2nd half Villa just blew Peters away and stepped on the accelerator. Villa Captain Livingstone was injured and replaced so was the 12 Ries not sure if it’s bad or not.
If Villa play anything like that next week Ashgrove will win well.

Full time Padua score right at the death to win 19-15

Outstanding work by the "leaguies!!!".....

(Quoting the Laurie's no. 9 to his teammates from right in front of the Padua Student's Stand during the game after Padua scored and converted the first try....."Don't worry boys, they're leaguies and will be tired by the second half").

SLC badluck but premiership chase over. Congrats to Padua.
MCA have a tough road ahead being Villa, Padua and Iona. Though the black and white will be the last game at home its a one way street. Don't know Villa's home run except for MCA next and SLC last / and Padua's run (who the Villa boys just beat). Looking forward to those 2 upcoming MCA games. Hope a few more MCA yr 11s are blooded ( last count have abt 5-6 and 1 year 10 in the 1sts). MCA 2nds lots more.

By the way my post yesterday regarding Villa V Peters may have sounded disrespectful to Peters. I apologise if it was taken that way. Villa are clearly a class above Peters but to their credit they kept competing right through the game. Peters never gave up even after Villa had cranked up a big gear. Whilst those boys were beaten well on the scoreboard their Mums and Dads should be proud of their spirit and fight.

By the way as curious footnote. Villa coach Davey has not really been using his bench as I have mentioned previously. However yesterday he flooded the field with subs late in the game. Which makes total sense considering the score line and what is coming next week. The lads in Jersey 16 and 22 were very high impact when they came on. One is a reserve prop and the other an outside back. They have been hidden nicely and may really help late against Ash.

Best players yesterday for Villa were Muir (he is simply wonderful to watch) and Stokes (9) also Agnew played strongly out wide.

Ashgrove have kept a clean sheet four weeks in a row now. If Villa don't get their heads right then next week's probable premiership decider is going to stop being a question of "if villa can win" and moreso "if villa can even get a point on the board". On another note, can anyone fill me in on if there ever been a 1st XV team to finish an AIC season having not conceded a point?

Can someone inform me about the league situation? is it likely to get ahold?

Yep, Big Time
1. thats where the money is, 16 possible employers vs sitting in a convoluted rugby academy.
2. rugby is so GPS centred . who is prepared to risk not getting seen so if someone gets an offer ( say Lavin, SLC 3 years ago when in Grade 10 to go to Titans.turned out to be a good move since injured for most of senior year.. ) how can they not take it when they know RU scouts are really only at GPS games. Wheras you can bet the RL scouts will be very very interested in how alot of these guys go with the "front on" game of RL

Just following in from Point 2

7 out of 20 spots in the U18 QRL Team gone to Palm Beach High students

Would imply that league select who they consider their best players irrespective where they are from

Rugby , meanwhile , going out of its way to do AA for PC

SPC with a decent showing in firsts and seconds with seconds winning 12-0. SPC 1st moved well with Iona lacking discipline in some areas, basically a battlefield down there with many injuries occurring. At the end of the day I believe SPC was the better team with Ionas only points coming from a penalty try. Quite a few of pats seconds players had a go in firsts, due to the injury's, with good results. The fullback from seconds had a blinding game in firsts along with a lot of skill shown by other substitutes in the forward pack, really shows the depth of the SPC lineup. Iona showed some decent skill with good ball movement in the firsts. Their depth and skill was also shown when it was nil all in seconds at half time. Overall good weekend at Shorncliffe for AIC rugby.

There would be no chance an AIC First XV Premiership has been won by a team conceding 0 points.
MCA did have a run of 5 consecutive Undefeated Premierships from 2002 to 2006 (35 undefeated games). In that period their points for and against were 2002 F207 A64 2003 F257 A76 2004 F240 A83 2005 F429 A53 2006 F201 A46.
I imagine the 429 For in 2005 would be some sort of record as would the differential of 376.
It would seem the MCA team of 2019 have to first win the premiership, however, if they do they may well approach some of these figures?
The next 4 in a row might be a challenge though?

MCA finish with Villa, Padua and Iona, the next two games are away so a tough road home with the F/A record and keeping a clean sheet unlikely to be on their radar.

Even if MCA gets over Villa this week they then have Padua, who will have only one loss if they manage to beat SPC on Saturday and therefore a shot at the premiership.

I'd expect Villa to have a big crowd on hand this week when hosting MCA, like Lauries did a couple of weeks ago, but once again I do wonder if the hope and expectation of the home crowd is going to help them or hurt them.

MCA should be mentally ready to go on Saturday, with the big game at Runcorn in Round 3 serving as a dress rehearsal for them, Villa will have to match their intensity early or things could unravel as they did in the corresponding game last year.

Hearing rumours coming out of St Laurence’s College that it might all be falling apart. Teammates allegedly blowing up with each other after the shock Padua loss. Rumours circling that the players are no longer buying into what the coaches are saying. There’s a real chance SLC could drop 2 of their last 3 here. The coaching staff is under immense pressure along with the director as all are off contract at the end of this season and without a top 3 finish it’ll be hard to see them getting reappointed. Watch this space as it could really blow up very soon!
