Rebels 2020

Let him go to the Ponies, Ruru and Goddard are fine if Genia doesn’t stay

While I hold high hopes for Goddard, Ruru is just a good back up to a starting scrum half. I think bringing Ben Meehan back would be a good idea, he would fit with our current game plan and was always hard done by being reserve to a out of form captain under totally Tony.

Ruru plays like Joost vd Westhuizen and to an extent, Justin Marshall. Bigger than usual and able to bollock around the ruck. Doesn't strike me as the preferred option for the quick game we're trying to build around

Always good to remember where we've come from. They were tough years.

So true. I'm pretty unapologetic about any success we have in recruiting players and winning games. Fuck we survived some lean times

I don't think Meehan is the answer, he isn't even a starter for London Irish and didn't he have "problems" when he was here last

His problems was he spoke out at a dictator. Remember the game the Rebels changed the game plan as the crowd was booing all the kicking? We won the game but Meehan was punished for not sticking to the game plan.

Rebels won most there games that year when Meehan started as Stirzaker was injured, Stirzaker lasted 15 minutes in the win over the Tahs. When Stirzaker came back from injury the Rebels only picked up one more win for the season.

Problem wasn't Meehan, was Tony. A lot of players respected Meehan for speaking up but couldn't do anything about Tony's stupid ways.

Thoughts on Matt To'omua so far?
Nothing too exciting in attack, but some thumping defence. Sounds like before he left.

Tom English off to Japan at the end of 2019.

Yes I liked it because I thought, good for Tommy, he is a genuinely nice guy in the limited conversations I've had with him but then I thought, hang on, he is one of the longest contracted players for the Rebels (a bit wordy for he's been at the club forever) and now I get that nervous feeling that he has seen the writing on the wall and is bailing so as to secure his career - and if that's the case, good luck to him, hope he does well in Japan, but I am worried about the rest of the boys at the club and about the club's future too. Any thoughts?

It won’t solve next seasons issue as White will still be at Exeter, plus they will almost guaranteed make the finals again, so wouldn’t turn up until the last week or two in the season. Ruru is a solid back up, but far from taking the team to the next level. We’d have to go to the market for a short term fix or thrust Goddard into the caldron. From what I vaguely know the Rebels are desperate to keep Genia for one more year to fill the void.

Hodge looks to permanently move into the 13 spot with English going. Absolutely no idea what’s happening with Sione Tuipulotu. The young Sione Tui from the Aus 20s, will most likely move into the squad.

Genia wanted a 3 year deal and RA didn't want to give it. At least from a wallabies perspective he can still be picked, so no real pressure from national perspective to fork out for half the contract value.
