Rebels 2020

Genia wanted a 3 year deal and RA didn't want to give it. At least from a wallabies perspective he can still be picked, so no real pressure from national perspective to fork out for half the contract value.

Great way to enthuse him with the WB jersey "no real pressure so sort yourself out".

wow that's not good (for us)
It's not that bad. You can't keep relying on him to be your play maker due to his age. He's also, like most Australian players, great at some aspects of the game and terrible at others.

For example, he can't box kick, ruck or deal with a hard press. Nic White and Ruru sounds okay, although if i understand correctly White joins 'someone' in 2021.

What's the problem with the Hooper contract? he's in form and the most dedicated player the Tahs have.

Because of that contract, Australian Rugby has placed all their eggs in one basket and guys like Gill, McMahon, Colby etc all left/resigned abroad knowing the chance to represent is gone. The fact the McMahon was willing to play for the Sunwolves rather than come back to Oz is a really bad sign.

As has been reported everywhere, McMahon left because he knew his body would not hold out and he wanted to make as much cash as possible in an easier league.

Gill was never has good as Hooper and Pocock and left years before Hooper's contract.

Colby?

Yeah its funny people mention Gill Colby even McMahon, when it comes down to it Hooper's a better player then all of them. And probably at the moment better value then Pocock has been.

I miss Colby. From what I’ve seen he’s been really impressive over in the pro14 and would fit in nicely with our pack this year.
Anyone have any thoughts on our best options with the Genia/scrum half situation going forward? White will also have to go somewhere.(rebs/brumbies looks most likely?)
I’m guessing we would love to keep him for another year, but is he wanting more?
Not overly excited by Ruru but would love for Goddard to get an opportunity before someone else takes him off our hands.

Genia is surely due a rest, particularly now that the finals appears a bridge too far. Would be a tough baptism for Goddard to be thrown in against the Chiefs and Crusaders, but if you're good enough you're old enough.

It’s surely get who ever needs to be rested done with this week, then have everyone at their best for the crunch game against the Chiefs to finish the season.

Would that mean Ruru/Goddard as first choice next year? As far I can tell white wouldn’t rock up till exactly this time next year(possibly with a hangover If the Pom chiefs can go one better)

Don’t be greedy, you can’t have everyone. Tahs are losing Phipps, perhaps he’ll go there. Or maybe he’ll return to Canberra. He’s already had a couple of chats with McKellar, and he loved his time here.

was reported it is between Brumbies and Rebels for White, and Rebels also leading chase for Skelton to replace Coleman (though Brumbies desperately need more then a u20 player to replace carter AND arnold )

He won't move half way around the world to play behind Gordon, not would Gordon stick around if he was playing second fiddle.

But I agree with your point, it makes us look a little greedy. It has to be more than jsut money that is attracting players down to Melbourne.

It works if genia heads to Japan as reported.
Would be good for the wallabies to have white, Powell,Gordon and either of the reds two young lads as #1 half backs.
Think it’s a bit of a myth that the rebs have got “everyone”.. the brumbies have got more wallaby caps covering the front row on the pine than we have in our entire forward squad.
A quick look on wiki and the rebs have 350 odd caps spread over 15 ish players. The brumbies have 400 odd caps over 15.
That seems pretty fair/even to me?
It would be good if we could have quality spread over all the teams especially in the key positions..easier said than done tho

Don't let a little thing like facts get in the way of a one-eyed bias

If Genia is departing, then it's for the best if he ends up at the Rebels (although not until 2021)...........

I'd love to have him back at the Brumbies, but we've already got two good locally produced halves in Powell and the up and comer Lonergan, who is also a pretty handy goal kicker.
