I see a lot of chat about the strength Uni brings. Just quietly does anyone rate Souths? For me personally I think they’re, starting to come into stride and I think they’ll be good enough to finish on top.

They virtually recruited a whole new team they should be favourites to win it - they have more Junior Wallabie Open Squad/Australian School Boys/QLD URC players than any other team. However for a large junior club it’s sad to see very little of their Juniors transition into Colts 1 because of the heavy recruitment at Colts 1 Level. I was told only one player in their current 15 is a Souths junior. In saying that if you can recruit better players why not I suppose.

Souths definitely have the forward pack to finish on top. Thought they lacked fitness when I saw them play in the first half of the season, were very good for the first 20 mins , but faded quite dramatically as the game went on. Get them firing for the full 70 minutes and they will be very hard to beat.

V Lea is a weapon , need to get him the ball .

They seem to be a lot fitter now then start if the season, their forwards outmuscled and outplayed Sunnybank on the weekend from what I heard, and were missing Lea I think

I think the forwards from Sunnybank would disagree it was the best game of colts I have seen this year. 3 tries a piece and was only a pen in it. One of the Sunnybank forwards went off injured and played no further part. Lea played Prem grade I would suggest if the beat Brothers the worst they can finish is second. If they beat Brothers and UQ the following weekend the minor prem is theirs to lose.
Based on weekend results and the grapevine. My top 4 has not changed
Souths
UQ
Sunnybank
Brothers.
The next two weeks will determine order.

I would say the Sunnybank backs looks better from what I saw, especially the 15 and Samu who was back from premier grade! But the Souths forwards dominated the scrums and contact area, especially the front row

Did Tom Van Der Schief play for UQ on the weekend?

He went on midway through the 1st half due to injury change - he looked shell shocked with the pace of the game and seemed lost at times which you would expect after being out for so long, hopefully he finds his feet over the next few weeks.

I feel as though Lea might be a little overrated. I definitely think he’s okay, but there are more talented wingers out there. Defensively is a liability, also can he kick?

As a brothers supporter I expect you'll see how "overrated" he is this weekend on Saturday. I watched via the online stream the prem grade games from the weekend, and his first touch he ran straight through and set up a try for their no 8. Rarely is ever tackled one on one.

Just out of curiosity, which wingers would you think are at or around his level? The only one I can think of is Ralston, nd not sure who'd be under these two on the pecking order

The Souths brothers game will be an absolute cracker this weekend! Some good head to heads will be fun to watch, the battle of the 10’s (cross and leerenvelt), wingers (Lea And Carrol, 2nd rowers (McDonald and stocker) and the front row, particularly the 2 hookers

Souths without Villiami Lea = Brothers for the win

For old mate who said Lea is overrated, Souths Colts have won a lot of games off the back of individual tries from this monster. I can’t stand those grubby magpies but give credit where credit is due he’s a great player and underrated not overrated.

I agree with how dominant Lea is, but to say they can’t win without him is pretty rough considering how they have gone all season

I suppose the proof is in the pudding, I can only judge what I see - Lea scored 2 individual tries against UQ result 10 all draw - if Lea didn’t play that game it was all over rover UQ for the win. He was also the difference in the Brothers win.

Can they beat Brothers without him....I don’t think so, hopefully Lea stays in Prem grade so we can find out.

Cross is no8 and Carroll is a fullback ... haha
- speaking of cross where has he been the past couple weeks, his name has been absent from team sheets since v Uni?
But agreed it will be a massive game at crosby!
Lea is a huge loss if he stays in prems... geez its going to be a brutal and physical encounter.
Brothers to upset the favourites and win by 7

The old phrase being a good big man will beat a good little man.
Souths will dominate in the forwards as they are just much bigger.
Watched the game last round and the Ref was painful.
The Brothers pack are willing but not much go forward except for the 2 and 8.
Their 2 is very mobile off the back of the line out.
The 8 is in your face and hard but has good hands and speed.
Brothers only chance is to break even in the forwards. If so their backs might be a handful.
Souths by 5

Brothers won’t upset the favourites they don’t play UQ this week lol - but I agree Brothers will win this week by 7

So games this weekend
GPS v Easts Easts were unlucky last week and I expect them to continue GPS miserable season. Easts by 20
Sunnybank v Wests IMHO is the game of the round. The Bank come off a very close loss to Souths on the weekend and play a West’s team that is realistically fighting for its finals survival as a Sunnybank win will put them two ahead of West’s. I expect the Bank to do the business at home in a tough willing encounter. Sunnybank by 5
UQ v Bond. UQ will have too much firepower all over the park and I also expect Bond to start looking to eligibility for Colts 2 players as the lead that comp and will not be in finals contention. UQ by 20
Brothers v Souths this should be close and whoever wins will probably be top two with a very solid chance of being minor Prems. Souths have won one more game and Brothers have a better points differential. I expect the Souths power game to be a little too much for Brothers in a close one Souths by 7

Colts 2 ladder also looks interesting with the top two clearing out and the next everyone down to 7 with a chance to get to finals.

GPS v East - The Lads from Yoku Rd are having an unlucky season thus far, but if you look at the results they have been competitive even against the top sides, If GPS are going to win a game its going to be at home to East. GPS 5+

Sunnybank v West - Its hard to bet against the Boys from The Bank when they are playing at home, this will be an important game for Sunnybank to solidify their Top 4 spot. It will be interesting to see how West bounce back after the loss to Norths last week. Sunnybank 12+

Brothers v Souths - Lots of good match ups across the park, Souths have a slight edge in the forwards and Brothers have the edge in the back line. Souths play a direct style of footy utilising their size but tend to bunch quickly and struggle at times in broken play. Brothers on the other hand tend to play a faster style of footy which is a great counter, however their inability to close out games on the defensive end is a problem, if Brothers stick to their quick style of footy and play with some width I think they will come out on top. Brothers 10+

UQ v Bond - Everyone expects UQ to get the job done, however Bond have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I do expect this game to be a lot closer than what people think. UQ 10+
