So, does McDonald definitely miss the next game? Do we bring back Harrison at 10? Interesting questions for the halves pairing.

That's what the match report said. He will need to get one of the yellow cards overturned at the judiciary to cancel out the red card I believe. I don't like his chances.

A few of the red cards issued so far during the tournament have been overturned and the player faced no suspension.

I assume Harrison will come back in at 10 assuming he passes the return to play protocol.

The whole back row was sublime. McReight player of the tournament

Locks immense, Hosea and Wood were the catalyst for most of the choke tackles. Wood is incredible with his ball carrying and Hosea is a maul wrecker.

Both centres had their best game yet, superb in contact and both exposed the defense around the pilar/post positions by running hard suicide lines.

Bell is top notch and Lonergan is superb around the field.

Lucas was rag dolled a little in the first 20/30mins but as the players tired he was a real threat.

Wingers were on a hiding to nothing in those conditions. Both defended well but will want to make some changes to their impact on attack.

Donaldson was a little sloppy to start the game but grew with every minute that passed.

McDonald never got a feel for the game, thought the guy that came on was better.

I liked what I saw from Robertson at 9, seemed more composed than McDonald. I didn't think Donaldson was great at 10, so halves pairing of Robertson & Harrison (if fit) is my go.

Harrison straight back to 10, Donaldson seems much more of a 15 to me.

Interesting that this is the first time we've been in the final since 2010, where NZ beat us by 50.

Here is that team:

L Morahan; D Shipperley, K Sitauti, R Coleman, A Toua; M To'omua, N White; S Manu, S Siliva, P Alo-Emile, P Battye, G Peterson, C Fainga'a, L Gill, J Schatz (capt)
Replacements: S Robertson, C Ah-Nau, L Jones, E Quirk, I Prior, J Lance, G Jeloudev

Really only To'omua and White were long-term Wallabies, but there were plenty of decent Super players in that crop.

Yes and no. I can see why McDonald gets picked.

The thing I marked down the most from McDonald's game wasn't his flip tackle nor the high tackle that made him the 29th man.

It was his kick to touch in the shadows of half time that gave Argentina the ball and utimately a penalty try - plus his own sending off. They needed to recycle it one more play. IIRC, ten seconds would have seen them into half time.

He knew it was a mistake and then doubled up with aggression in defence. That can be a good thing but in this case he was chasing the error and compounded it in a bad way.

I thought Robertson's kicking was great. Really got us out of trouble a few times.

EDIT: as in, compared to McDonald when he came on.

Interesting question arises if Scotland lose to Fiji. Will WR (World Rugby) let a protected union be relegated to the 2nd div playing the likes of Hong Kong? Or will the expand the format.

True, it did.

The kick I'm refering to wasn't a physical problem with the kick itself, though, obviously. More the decision to make it when he decided to make it.

Re: expanded format. I'd like to see it.

It was good for WR (World Rugby) that Italy won, because they wouldn't be dropped if finishing 12th - if (as rumoured) they are the next hosts. (Italy were a solid team in fairness).

Lets get Fort Fumble to bid for the 2020 U20 comp instead - play it at Ballymore/ Wests Bulldogs/ Bond Uni.

Bloody hell if there is a failing in age grade talent ID, there it is. Barely a journeyman, and hardly even shined at club level.

I understand how they operate the 2 divisions, but I think it could be managed better. Some reasonable teams don't make it, such as USA and Samoa (who came 2nd last year) but then you get the likes of Hong Kong, Kenya and Brazil all there.

Portugal almost went up a couple of years ago losing the final to Japan.

Having said that I would like to see the a major nation be relegated just to show a bit of diversity in the competition.

I also fear that if Scotland were to be the ones to go down it would reinforce their fears about the world league and make them even more opposed to it.

The best poster this site ever had, Lee Grant, was an enormous fan of Greg as a schoolboy.

A shame it never worked out for him, I think he currently represents the States or at least did previously.

From memory Peterson had a couple of long injuries in his first couple of years of adult rugby and barely played. He struggled to really make an impression in Australia after that and ended up leaving.

Always seemed to be a classic case of Big Kid Makes Good, followed by Other Kids Got Big And Made Better.

Played for the Tahs ?once? Played for the USA also as well as tripping around Europe.

Last time I saw him, he was playing Shute Shield and getting bitched.

Played a lot against him through school and rep, was always amazed at the wraps about him. Same with Kingston as well both were regularly outplayed whenever i saw them or played against them. I think they just happened to be above average talents who were part of some good club sides and reputation took off from there

Just watched the replay of the game .

Bar the scrum , the Aussie forward pack was terrific, very well balanced and all keep having a dig .

Hosea and Wood held up how many tackles/mauls ?

McReight , how many turnovers? Must have been close to a record for numbers, even more special when you consider how crucial some of them were. Got a laugh out of the Argie commentator questioning whether there might have been more than one #7 out on the park for Australia.

Phenomenal effort!
