Rebels 2020

Besides, it's probably more accurate to describe Wessels as having traded the dressing room, as half of it seems to have fucked off to Japan or France for 2020

The last time Frank made a post with intel from a 'good source,' he was naming the Wallaby RWC squad....

In April...

With Pocock as captain.

and some of the worst spelling of names you've seen.

2019 WC squad - from a good source
Wallabies to go back to attacking structure of 2015 and Tahs systems.
hence need bigger bodies and beale as link option from 15 not 12.

I'm not a pedant, particularly online, but literally mixing up players on every one of those interminable 1-23 lists of surnames, sans commentary or context, is a fucking rookie error.

And not hard to edit.

2019 was the year and they stuffed it. Much harder with the list below and that's best case.

1. Faulker 2. Uelese 3. Ainsley
4. RHP 5. Phillips
6. Jones 8. Naisarani 7. Wilkins
9. White? 10. To'omua 11. Hodge 12. Meakes (if reds don't get him) 13. Magnay 14. Maddocks (if Tahs don't get him) 15. DHP
16. Rangi 17. Saaga 18. Pona 19. Leota 20. Cottrell 21. Hardwick 21. Goddard 22. Tupou

I can see Rebels pursuing off contract brumbies Peni & Taliuali

Not forgetting Hosea and Ha'angana who have just had a great Junior WC

A few days ago, Paul Cully wrote of Daryl Gibson that 'one finals appearance in four years with a team stacked with Wallabies is underperformance pure and simple. More fool the board had they allowed Gibson to continue on for another year. At least the self-aware coach didn't appear to be asleep at the wheel.
Let's take a long hard cold look at the Rebels performance : No finals appearances ever - and 2019 the team was stacked with Wallabies - surely underperformance pure and simple. More fool the board for allowing Wessels to continue for another year.

Rebels had a stellar squad but I feel that championship window has now passed, losing test players like Mafi, Coleman, Genia, Cooper, Naivalu and Koroibete, and also the guys like Timani, Fainga'a, Reid, English, Debreczeni who provide strong depth and squad experience.still have a good team for 2020, but would take some exceptional coaching, which I just don’t see with Wessells

The problem isn't just missing the finals. The problem is that we won 7 games divided into two parts
- winning the first 3 games against the brumbies twice and the highlanders (who rested some players) before the Rebels game plan was worked out
- winning 4 games out of the remaining 13 against the two teams at the bottom of the competition (Reds and the Sunwolves)

We had a single successful game plan. Once that was worked out, any of the vaguely capable teams could completely shut us down.

I wonder how much lies with the players or Wessels? I don't buy that there wasn't a plan B, I think maybe the players got a bit complacent, There was never any chance that QC (Quade Cooper), WG, DHP, RH, AC (when fit) were ever going to be dropped so weren't playing for their shirt.

I'd like to see a senior DoR come to put the fear into the players, a Eddie Jones, Jake White type of character.

Again, more fool the board if they don't take action
