Anyone who has spent time coaching at grassroots across the states with tell you that Vic Rugby has got it wrong. Vic Players aren’t raised like the players you know in Brisbane, where it is accepted as a privilege that you grind your way from colts to Premier. The Rebels organisation & Vic Rugby do nothing to help the competition nor the clubs foster this type of culture. From schoolboy>seniors>rebels - if your outside of the match day 23 it is considered better for your development if you pack your bags and go elsewhere.

If that's true, whatever tape the Rebels had on Clyne must've been a goodn.

The Rebels are turning out to be a really bodgy organisation. Took by far the best roster, packed full of Wallabies and a strong start and bottled the fuck out of it.

I think it was more in reference that thierry dusutoir implied there was an expectation that he should be getting a look-in at Super Rugby level already.

I certainly have no issue with him heading overseas for a professional gig to further his career if there is one available.

I don’t have thoughts either way on whether it’s right or wrong by the Rebels or Sione Tui as I don’t know the ins and outs of the situation.

I do think that where there is smoke there is fire in regards to the lack development strategy and I know my own club Wests have been a big beneficiary of VIC talent (& Gossip) moving interstate. I know during the force’s teething issues on the development front DHP went away Biarritz (I think) and he seemed to do well from that.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think in a small market like VIC, and you are a player starting in one of the most successful junior national teams of the last decade that you would get some form of deal. Especially when you play are a specialist winger in a squad that is full centres and fullbacks.

Tui is probably going from an u20 contract to a development contract. He Could double his money overseas even without breaking a sweat and move up from there. He may be back or he won't, but 'doing the hard yards' in a professional environment is tough when you have 10 years to max out $ and you can't even be a regular starter in U20, therefore lucky to have a pro contract to begin with.

Tuipolotu was announced alongside a few others departing the club sometime last week.

Whose 2020 foreign Team is better? Honestly, evening without the SA losses (Vermulean, Etzebeth, Pollard etc) how can Super Rugby even come close to claiming it is the premier comp in the world with these players NOT IN IT.

Because it still has the best rugby and is still the hardest to win.

Players leave to extend their careers because other leagues and slower and easier.

I would absolutely love a club world championship match. Watching Saracens get belted by the Crusaders would be entertaining.

But also they have more money, need a bigger roster for a longer season, and need to cover the loss of their internationals for test matches as their comps continue through them. BUT they do have depth issues as talent is spread thing so need to bolster.

I reckon there's a direct correlation between the number and quality of southern hemisphere players in the foreign competitions, and the relative popularity of the competitions

The ultimate grudge match between 2 great armies (somewhat dormant over the last few hundred years).

As for the prospect of a "belting", on my rough count Saracens have 561 national caps and 29 Lions caps. Decent team. :) Crusaders might beat them but would likely be a hell of a game.

Held in 2019 - Very close, but 2020? Remove Read, Franks, Taufua, Todd, Crotty and it definitely swings to Saracens favour.

Both teams also have uncapped/low capped players who have been selected in most recent national squad eg, Spencer, Singleton, Reece, Bridge, Ennor.

Amazing how many games you play in Europe. Even if you upgraded ITM cup to be included, it still doesn't come close. Goode is only 31 - not exactly ancient, and has 287 games for Saracens in 11 years.

As opposed to an Overseas 23, I started thinking about which current players (anywhere in the world) would make an uncapped Australian 23.

The eligibility I have decided upon is that they must have been contracted to an Australian Super Rugby team following the 2011 Rugby World Cup (if they have played for another country since departing, they're eligible), and I've taken Naisarani and HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) out of the equation due to impending debuts. I've gone on their achieved ceiling, as opposed to current ability or their ability when they left Aus if overseas.
