Southern Inland Rugby 2019

Even if it's on the second field, it makes sense for the Blacks to host.

I disagree Sam - Surely our Preliminary Final has to take place on the main field, the facilities at Exies are great but that is for the main field. The second field has a couple of temporary stands and no bar.

I hope the Blacks can negotiate with the Swans and the RFL to have their match moved to Sunday - PB what do you the chances of that are? Do the two clubs get along well?

Well Bandar the Swans August 10 match day has been moved to Sunday to accommodate the local Griffith Waratahs Rugby League Club. Because the Siru semifinals day on August 17 would be a big and important day I’m sure the Exies Club would be interested in holding it. The Swans themselves I’m not sure about. The Exies Club would probably do the negotiating with the Swans. I suppose if the Griffith Rugby Club and Siru would like the 2nd semifinals day to be held on the main Exies ground a decision needs to be made from rugby so that negotiations can be started as soon as possible with afl.

Fair point, but is it really that different from Tumut last year? Most clubs operate their bar out of a tent (other than Griffith and Albury from memory).

I doubt the Swans and Goannas would agree to moving the game to the Sunday to accommodate the Blacks even if they do get along well. Waratahs Tigers play at Exies on the 10th August, I don't know where or how the Group 20 Finals work.

If you have a look at what teams are likely to feature in the 2nd week of the Finals, there is a strong chance that clubs from Griffith/Hay/Deniliquin will be a part of that week. Purely from a gate perspective, that will generate income.

On the other hand, the Steamers have invested in their clubhouse and have some good facilities in that regard. But they're only a chance of having 1st Grade in the finals. While I'm sure the Steamers would put on a great day, there isn't the local content ducking in to watch family etc run around.

Based on current ladder positions, and assuming the Minor Premiers across all grades win and the 4th placed team loses, week two will look like this:

1st Grade - Aggies v Griffith
2nd Grade - Aggies v City
3rd Grade - Griffith v Deni
Women's - Tahs v Tumut

I suppose the alternative argument is that it's no further for Deni from Albury to Griffith and the Wagga clubs would have a stronger turnout in Albury due to shorter travel. I'm sure the Tumut Bullettes would rather play in Albury and I reckon Ag College would rather play Griffith in Albury than in Griffith!

The "Ace in the hole" for the Griffith Blacks is guys like Lee Kimball who has a long-standing relationship in the area. If Aggies are playing in two grades, with Griffith in two grades also, that's a decent start.

The problem for this is the deadline for nominations closes this Friday (I believe). Leaving a very tight timeframe for negotiations to be had!

All fair points, I also don't think Tumut was great last year either, two tiny change rooms and the weather was terrible. A nice sunny day makes any ground good.

Do we know who has applied to host the finals yet? Maybe Griffith are the only ones, maybe CSU?

If I was the Blacks I would be getting Mr Kimball to start negotiating now to confirm that they can have the oval if indeed they want to host the day.

Isn’t the 2nd semi final on the 24th? Talk is that the Griffith committee has tentatively booked the main ground for that date and are just waiting to hear from Siru. It makes it hard for clubs which share or need to book grounds when the hosts are announced so close to the date.
The second ground at the Exies has recently been upgraded with new sheds and a canteen. It would still make a good venue for finals.

Fantastic point. It is.

And, even better. The Swans are playing at Leeton.

Great pick up there son.

4 yellow and 2 red cards given in the Aggies v Leeton game and it doesnt even get a mention on this august forum ?

Some cards both red and yellow can be a bit soft these days. Expect dressing down from Sam. Warwick Strong from Deni refereed us Saturday. Great job. Actually met him. Nice bloke. Like the old days he stayed around for a drink and a feed after the game. Score against Reddies could have blown out except for some great scrambling defence. Reddies showed great club/team spirit. They can come back next year. Leeton I’m not so sure. At the moment they are a lot better team than Reddies but without a reserve grade where is the base to build from. I mean with the Reddies they have a new group of potential players coming through each year.

I agree with you Paul, so does the SIRU Judiciary.

In many instances though, the flip-side of the "soft" card is player safety and that needs to be the main concern for any referee. I'm yet to meet a referee that enjoys handing out cards or filling out the paperwork mate!!

This is good to hear mate, Strongy has been around the traps for a while now and has really progressed the past two years.

Has this wrong player being charged identification spree this season Whistle got anything to do with the fact that the players have different no.s on their backs than they have on the explorer app? I mean is it that the names and numbers aren’t matching up?

No the wrong player has been sent from the field by the same referee on three occasions Paul

A Leeton player has been rubbed out for the Season and for the 3rd time this season a player (this time from Leeton !!) has been exonerated because the wrong player was charged !!

Is it three times fellas? Definitely not by the same referee regardless.

I know for the first example that I was aware of that the two potential players were asked to identify themselves in front of their captain and both denied any wrong doing. Hardly fair to point that one at the referee in my eyes.

As I understand the Leeton card, there were two melee's happening on the field which is difficult to control at the best of times and I'm sure you can appreciate it's hard to be in a position to get all the details. I believe it was also a 2nd YC offence and there were two players with the same number on the field.

Despite the finer level details, I agree that it's not a good look for the game and clearly not something the referee's association wants to happen. We should be focusing on the game, not the referee.

I think with the number of penalties they are getting against them and the number of cards they are receiving Leeton are possibly developing a siege mentality.

I don't know what City will make of their season after defeating both Waratahs and Ag College (Major semi finalists) during the season the Boiled Lollies have failed to make it through to the Finals.
Was the captain / coaching role of Curgenven a success overall and will he put his hand up for the job next year.

Regardless of on-field success, I think James is a guy that City would be wise to keep around the club in a senior role wherever possible. Maybe some more support with assistant coach/es would be a positive move?

No doubt City will be frustrated by their final ladder position, particularly given the promising early start to the season.

The rumour doing the Rounds is that Albury will host Week 2 of the Finals at 'Murrayfield' which means victory in their Minor Semi Final against Griffith on Aug 17 at Conolly will give them a big advantgae against more than likely Ag College who they thumped the other Day.
Final Round matches are on this Saturday but all Final's spots in all Grades look to be already settled

At this stage of the season, Aggies look like going out in straight sets don't they. Griffith and Albury will prove tough for them to get past.

On another note, was that Noa Rabici playing for City on Saturday? I wonder if the required paperwork was stamped?

City a great improvement from 2018. Aim for another jump up the ladder next season. CSU big movers 2020. The Competition needs structural support from Clubs. Each club needs to supply referees and assistant referees to the overall pool. No qualified people in the middle/sides no game. All grades, women’s games included. Wrong players appearing before the judiciary is just one sign that the limited number of officials we do have are under too much pressure.

In this day and age of electronic registration there is no requirement for old school technology like a stamp or ledger book. But yes, you can rest assured that Noa was registered correctly.

Signed in triplicate? Carbon copies forwarded by facsimile? :)
