Nah disagree with you there. The TSS game TSS must of had over 65-75% of the ball and deserved to win, however doesn't say a lot about their attack and a fair bit about NC defense in that game.

The GT game is always a bit of a closer affair then other games and usually closer than expected. GT find a little bit extra and for some of the game, their "smaller" forwards actually put it to NC and were winning the contest. The more worrying point for mine is NC inability (particularly in that game) to run straight. On numerous occasions the whole back line just crabbed side-wards instead of hitting the line, trying to make outright breaks/half breaks and looking for the offloads. They were too easy to picked-off. And their defense was a classic "wait and see" approach (wait for them, which hardly ever works, unless your outnumbered), which gave GT room to move. They gotta get back to being in the oppositions faces and inline and wacking the attack.

Agree with a lot of what you say.

I would just add I think the the NC line out has been average at best, against TSS line out throwing was generally poor and against BSHS it was very poor not really the hookers fault as he has played in the back row and turned into a hooker this year. Lucky for him Vella is so damn good.

too true!!
Personally, i think it is a very quite grubby tactic, packing ur forward pack full of back rowers, which are all very mobile, instead of having the required players for each position

Have heard that after this weeks game against IGS, Nudgee’s remaining opponents will being going uncontested in U14

Congrats on your vast network of rugby contacts,
You have either:
1) contacted the dir of rugby & 14A coaches of the 4 remaining schools to play the mighty NC 14A;OR
2) you are listening to gossip.

A wise man once said "it is out of touch scrum doctors like you that have caused GPS football numbers to now double that of rugby"
Keep it up and NC can scrum each other each week.

Regarding uncontested scrums in the lower age groups and grades....how about that the team that has to request uncontested scrums simply has to play the whole game with one less player on the field (I am assuming that would mean one less back)? That should balance things out a bit and help to motivate teams to increase their front row capability.

quote="Patriot, post: 1085048, member: 86139"]I reckon 85% of games played between NC and GT had uncontested scrums, including some A games. I was at a jnr club game today and watched a team with an experienced front row call uncontested scrums, not because of injury but because they were being completely dominated by their opponents. This allowed the team to be more competitive, it evened up the contest somewhat. This is a deliberate tactic and referees never question the motives. It’s disgraceful and teams that take advantage of the rule should not be credited with a win should they be ahead at full time.[/quote]

But they have had 2 terms to prepare !!-to quote you.

nah, denying a boy the chance the play the game.

I like the idea of free kicks to the opposition at scrum time for any team that can't scrum properly.

Of course, safety first and all that.

I do understand the view - assuming that is his view , but the hype around it all exists with or without his refusal to let games be streamed in which BGS Firsts play in

So not sure what he’s actually achieving

A lot of the grammar schools think that way. When I was at IGS the headmaster fought (and failed) to have the points table removed from the GPS Comps. It wasn’t about protecting kids, but about pushing school work ahead of rugby.

I no longer live in QLD but I played in lower grade levels and then reffed B/C/D games for 6 years

Some observations
- Around 50% of games below A level have uncontested scrums
- the lack of scrums would result in props being subbed off and replaced with mobile backrowers

don't blame the coaches, blame the schools program, and also the state of aus rugby which see's many kids rock up not knowing what a contested scrum is.

Looks like Churchie has picked up a point.
Can someone remind me about the points. It seems that there are set points for win (2) and draw (1) with no bonus points? And for and against have no effect on placement?

Can’t explain Churchies point but looks like the algorithm sorts by alphabetical order rather than percentage. Basically this is just another spectacular failure by RA administration. Get onto the the junior RL or AFL websites and their results pages are fantastic in comparison. #sackraelene

Maybe they drew with the bye ?

On a serious note, no bonus points , no relevance of for and against.

Only number of wins matter.

Most number of wins = you win .

Same number of wins as another school , but still the most = shared premiership, F&A doesn’t even get considered .

So, back to the main stage this week. A game that will really change the top 4. NC vs IGS at Ippy. A Nudgee win will leave TSS and BBC sitting a game clear, or can IGS take the goodies at home and further derail Nudgees season. Thoughts?
