^ Just about everything Nick Cave and/or Warren Ellis have done has been brilliant.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Grinderman
Dirty Three

Man. When Grinderman 2 was released, I couldn't stop listening to Palaces of Montezuma. Again, elegant with standard Nick Cave brooding - not necessarily pushing the envelope, but who turns to rock n roll for new sounds anymore?

no idea really, late 80's?, dont recall them making much of a splash over our side of the deetch. sort of a quirky 80's Regurgitator/They Might be Giants thing?
Late80s yes, stylistically not really. Listen to their albums Great Trucking of the Renaissance, or The Beasts of Suburban to get a good feel for them. For me their best stuff was pre 1995.

I always wonder how record store guys found the time to churn through so many albums, even if you have them playing in store all day long. Do you get through three tracks and say 'nah fuckit'? What about those albums that bear a second or third listening? Do you keep a dictaphone and take notes?

its mental.
all mental.
eg the first 4 STRANGLERS lp's.
Have thrashed them to DETH and havent reached for them virtually at all in last 10 years.
BUT if one of them were NOT there, pacifying my tiny mindset, it would just be WRONG and I would be mentally compelled to track a copy down

no sign of Teh Other Dave for a while.

all hell breaking loose on discogs. the seppos have decided that it is incumbent upon all citizens of the world to start paying taxes in the US of A.

https://blog.discogs.com/en/tax-law/

ok, so as our U.S pals say, "let me see if I've got this straight." One random country has decided to collect sales taxes from all sellers located in every other country in the rest of the world? Not buyers. The fucking sellers?

That is one hell of a shakedown.

I must have it fucken wrong. There has to be some sort of sales threshold for this. No one country could possibly have the unmitigated gall to try a stunt like this. Every seller on earth would just block the country. Why in hell could they possibly think I would scurry around collecting tax revenue for some rando country that has nothing to do with me?

If I have to do one scintilla of work with all that "upload SUV inventory" bollocks and filing tax forms in some state in some country that has nothign to do with me then GTOF. Dude. i'm a waster. Not a goddamn G-7 accountant for Google. I'll just block the whole offending country. Or, failing that, I could just put up a nasty wee notice in my sellers terms saying "sure, US buyers, go ahead and buy my stuff BUT if you're from one of the 21 states that require me to go through the rigmarole of filing sales taxes in your stupid state which has nothing to do with me then I am going to have to cancel your order. Nothing personal buddy but the last thing I need is Seal Team 6* rappeling down and through my balcony window here on the Pitcairns, screaming their heads off about $3.86 cents of unfiled tax forms in the state of West Dakota or some crap.

*of course, I'm being silly with the Seal Team 6 thing. $3.86 would make me a low priority target. Seal Team 3 would probably suffice.

ffs cyclo, terrifying, thanks a lot, another sleepless night in store for me.

Aus starts collecting GST on discogs sales last year and all the sepps on discogs are "lol, so sorry Australia, BLOCKED."

Turns out that was the canary in the coalmine

Now, incredibly, the sepps are going to be reduced to blocking other seppos in their own fucken country to avoid the arse pain of filing sales taxes that stupidly differ by % for each individual state. That plus USA's insane postage rates making their stuff unaffordable to the rest of the world = USA sellers are rooted.

so hot here. need more cooling record ideas.

what's working

any sort of synth stuff that doesnt pack a sad at the gentle wooshing of the fan.

ENO ambient stuff
THE BLUE NILE - hats (BEST)
COIL-their plip plop moments
KRAFTWERK radioactivity lp A side. cool, sterile and synthetic. perfect.
SLOWDIVE souvlaki
LAURIE ANDERSON: big science and that other LP with Sharkey on it
OMD: anything
ROY MONTGOMERY: ditto
TOM WAITS black rider soundtrack
NICK CAVE and WARREN ELLIS white lunar. (BIG success, this one was perfect)

what's not working

any sort of hectic guitar music or energetic funk/soul.

I tried putting HIGH ON FIRE on and of course it was like sitting next to a volcano while being hit over the head by another volcano.

Never seen this in any record shop. Ever. At any price.

going by the comments here, seems like the recent LP repress was rogered to hell: https://www.discogs.com/Brian-Eno-W...no-Apollo-Atmospheres-Soundtracks/master/6531

Discogs, lp's start at $20. man, even the cassette version starts at $25. Wonder if cheapo CD isnt the go here, for such quiet music just remove any chance of mood bumming hiss etc.
