^NRC teams were released a few days ago, see posts from a couple of pages back.

Are you referring to URC maybe?

QRU have really done well in introducing Gordon into Super Rugby, with a full year in Prems and an introduction to NRC. We need to remember the kid has just turned 18 and there is no need to rush him, but at the same time he plays his position at a much higher higher level. Agree that Seib is a quality coach and may be taking instructions from above. NRC is a step up from Prems and Gordon’s body still needs to develop into a man even though his strength and tackling ability blows me away. Huge fan of Gordon.
Don’t get me wrong Saifoloi is a quality Prems player and was instrumental for Brothers this year. Best Brothers recruitment for 2019 but still a journeyman. Gordon just has more to offer Australian rugby in years to come.

I am also surprised by Dillon Wihongi playing 7. He has always struck me as more of a strong running 8 and less of a ruck threat. I think with the current team Country will be strong but might be a bit weak at the ruck. Don't mind Gordon off the bench for the first game to get a feel for playing at that level (very keen to see how he goes!).

agree re Wihongi. Assuming Liam Wright is off training with the Wallabies so he will come back at some stage. The ruck will be interesting as the Force may well have multiple on-ballers in their team.

Yes, Wilson needs a very good no.7 with him to offset his lack of skills at the breakdown and inability to keep his feet. If Wihongi does not play close to the ball and the Force attack the breakdown it could starve Country of a lot of phase ball.

Agree with some of what you have said , Harry has the skills , but the breakdown has never been his primary focus, you could say even coached that way.

He will develop them soon enough if that is identified as a major focus.

But yes agree , if he plays the same way , the team needs the balance of a genuine “on ball “ threat, or at least a breakdown pest.

I think this myth that Wilson can't keep his feet at the breakdown and is consistently inaccurate is extremely premature and based on very little sample size.

I think it works hand in hand with expectation management for these younger guys, they show plenty of promise but they still have a lot of development to go, especially on some of the technical aspects of the game. Nothing shits me more then fans overhyping young players then turning on them when they don’t perform to the expectations in the first year or two.

So you come & post on a rugby forum?

Here I was thinking that analysing player development with other rugby nerds was the whole purpose of the medium.

Excuse me?

What I said wasn’t aimed at you rather a comment about some ‘fans’ in general, but to reply to your comment.. yes analysing player development and supporting the teams and players is what people are in this forum for, that doesn’t mean people don’t overextend their own expectations of players and unfairly critique them when they don’t meet that same fan driven hype, i just prefer the conversation to be a little more pragmatic.

There’s certainly been a decent trend of it at the Reds over the past decade as well where Schoolboys/NRC/QPR/U20s form hasn’t translated to the same level of Super Rugby form and young player on. If Super Rugby championships were won in pre-seasons based on hype of young players, then Queensland would have half a dozen Super Rugby championships now.

Yes guys like Wilson have a lot of potential, but I think people just need to taper their expectations about what he can deliver in Super Rugby at this age, it’s a massive step-up and I think it’s unfair to expect too much of him too soon.

In the Brumbies thread, people have listed Reesjan Pasitoa as a starting Brumbies 5/8 for next year, it’s good to be excited, but then there’s unrealistic.

I wonder if Kibble is fit? Not sure why Country wouldn't play him at 7. He was an effective 7 for GPS through the year with U20's experience.
