Guys, what is known about Russian rugby players in Australia now? There are 74,000 Russians living in Australia. Everyone knows Adam Byrns, who played for Russia at RWC2011. Also quite famous is Greg Zheloudev, who played for Australia's seven in the World Series. There were also several Russian Australians in the Russian rugby league team 15 years ago.
From the modern generation, I know two young Russian Australians. Chipizubov brothers. Dmitry (21 years old) from Randwick. And Roman (18 years old) from Paramatta. But I am sure that there are many Russian Australians rugby players, especially in Sydney. Perhaps they have not Russian surnames like Adam Byrns, but Russian roots.

Adam is the inly one I know of but the NSW guys might know the others you mentioned.

I think we know him as Greg Jeloudev. Played Aussie 7s for a fair while. Sydney Uni lad I think? Super quick.

My 2nd team has been Georgia since I saw them play South Africa in the 2003 world cup. There were about 35k people at the SFS and everyone went nuts when Georgia scored a try. They put in a good performance that night and only lost by about 25 points against a far superior team.

The Georgians have improved a lot since 2003 though they still don't play the most attractive rugby, but I hope they can play well against Fiji and Wales. I'll be happy if they score a try or 2 against us as well so long as they don't injure any of our players!

Gotta be Ireland for me 'cos at least they won't be dicks about it like Ringinland & Wails would. Plus it'd be an excuse to get some Kilkennys down me on a day other than Saint Paddy's :).

Yes, that's him. I am sure that there are many Russian rugby players in Sydney. But perhaps most of them play rugby leagues.

Being the negative prick I am I have to say that I reckon the casual sports fan that tunes in for RWC is going to be bummed at how fucken boring the game is these days. Just hit-ups in pods and then the inevitable hoof downfield. "They just run into each other in the middle of the field for a while and then give up and kick it away."

Remember when it was set piece and then the backs would get it and it would go through the hands and someone would do some fancy dan shit? The bokkes havent done that for years. Statistics indicate their centres havent passed the ball to a winger since 1998.

My second team will always be France, partly because I come from a Francophone family. Several of my favourite players ever (Blanco, Sella, Cabanne) are French and they come from a time when they played this incredible brand of no-guts, no-glory fifteen man footy, but with a gnarly pack to go with it. Not the case any more, unfortunately.

I even wore my RWC2015 French jersey to the shops today. Getting in the mood I tells ya.

Too fucken long I tell ya.

I can't wait. The RWC is the best time you could possibly have as a sports fan I reckon. I've been to a couple (NZ and England/Wales) and both were fantastic. Just shitloads of people together having fun and watching the greatest game on Earth.

Dupont and Penaud are some unreal fresh blood for France.

If its not us I'd love it to be them, or the Argies.
