Nope & nope. What is does is stifle competition and incentivise other players to move elsewhere as their aspirations to play international football have effectively been destroyed. Form is meaningless.

/Back to QLD rugby.

His contract does not guarantee selection so no problem. And who is close? besides Pocock?

Gill and McMahon left before he signed the big contract (for big contracts of their own).

McReight and Wright signed on after the big contract (potentially hoping to get some of those sweet millions at the next round of negotiation.

Which potential international 7s have we lost as a result of Hooper signing in Aug 2018? None as far as I can tell

Wellllllllll, Liam Fucking Gill and Sean McMahon would beg to differ.

We have this giant gap between ranks because those two went overseas. Thankfully Hooper has been largely injury free, because with Pocock missing so much game time, there was a chance we could have been heading to a RWC with an open side with only 1 cap to his name.

and both those players decided to go overseas, if they wanted to be competing for the starting flanker position, then they need to be playing in Australia and forgoing the big money offers on offer form overseas. And for whatever reason, neither did.

re: selection. Whatever you say.

Wright is a better 7 and his super rugby stats this year proved it. Not that it mattered one jot, he gained some token mins to keep him interested though.

The upside is the Fearnley/Price party will be broken after the world cup.

How so? Hooper beats him in pretty much every statistical category. Wright attacked the breakdown harder and had more forced penalties. That is about the only stat he beats Hooper in across the board.

Wright is a very good, promising young player but FFS Hooper is excellent and absolutely, unequivocally deserves his spot.

Hooper is defintely better than Wright, right now.

However I think the point is this.... with a deluge of 7s coming through, as always, I hope we do not sign Hooper to another long-term contract.

Getting McMahon back should be far more important given the dearth of world class 6s and 8s in Australia.

With Pocock retiring there is surely some more money freed up for players in the back-row. Problem for McMahon is, the longer he stays away the more opportunity he gives to new guys like Wright, McReight and Dempsey to prove that they are suitable alternatives

McMahon is an already proven world class international forward.

McReight hasn't started Super, Wright has played 20 minutes of test, and Dempsey is a valuable Wallaby but not in Seans league at this point.

Sure, but McMahon isn’t available is he? I believe he has signed in japan for long term and my comments are about his longterm absence from Australia and international rugby. McReight hasn’t played Super Rugby yet, but by 2022 when McMahon wants to come home, there might night be the funds available

McMahon will come home when Cheik leaves, bookmark it.

MMmmm. I though Sean had worked out he was permanently crocked, and preferred to earn some coin while he still can on the gentle fields of Japanese rugby.
I can 100% confirm this is the major factor in him moving overseas. There is no issue with Cheika, his only gripe in Aus was the value of the wallaby top up offered when compared to some other players, not talking the top tier contracts but the mid range ones. RA valued him on one of the lower top ups.

I’ve heard it from boys that have spent time with him in Bali & on the GC that he doesn’t like Cheik, the rugby is less impact & he gets paid more. In order.

Most important stat for a 7 in the modern game, turnover. Everything else that matters is par or better. He didn't make as many tackles as he doesn't have lazy partners in his pack. Running I couldn't care less. There are 6 blokes with double digits on the back who are paid to run.

This talk of NSWelshmen is stinking up the QLD thread/
