things I have quit:

watching NBA bounceball. Sky TV lost the contract which saves me from burrowing a furrow in the sofa and veging out to 3 hour games of reg season pedestrian tedium
watching prem league soccer. see above. oh sure, could sign up to "Dazn" streaming service for $20 a month..... but I'd never bloody stop watching. They tell me I am still supposed to go to work.
cassette walkman. after my last one broke I switched to the dogshit tinpot thrill of mp3 player. It sucks. Still, I HAVE to get with the new hi-tech programme. People were looking at me funny on the subway when I'd take out my Sony WM FX-888 and flip the fucken tape over. Yes, they were already looking at me funny, I know, get stuffed
running. it7s just too fucken boring and stupid and tiring
playing basketball. i am just too goddamn old and lazy for that knee-rupturing scene

trying to quit:

watching NFL boofball. 3 hour games and they're all giving themselves fucken brain damage but damnit I love it
sugar. no goddamn chance here. my blood must be about 16% biscuit
buying huge boxes of records wholesale from overseas. the postage is a gouge and I just cannot afford this shit

Multiple votes function enabled in this pole, morans.

Coffee. It set off a bit of AF in the ticker. Had to get 'reset' by three hits of the Defib. A good side effect was my Migraines all but disappeared.
Meat, Dairy, Eggs. Yeah! I'm that guy! Blood pressure down, Cholesterol down, Knee pain significantly reduced, the love below - Yeah baby! the food amazing! Not the crap they sell to Omnivores.
Uber. They're evil
Uber eats. Still evil.

Twitter. I spent so much time browsing that pus hole of idiocy without realising it. Best decision.

I make half-hearted attempts to leave booze behind but it's a tough one. A single sip and my brain switches on.

I've got this weird personal puritanical streak that thinks a vegan straight edge life is actually a worthwhile pursuit, mainly for health reasons. But then I realise how fucking boring it is to fully cut the vices from life and continue on my merry way.

I'd love to quit smart phone reliance. It's a bad habit and I reckon just as corrosive to mental health as many of the chemical vices that are a bit more obvious.

vegan straight edge
I'm guessing ALL of these hardcore types that used to frequent my record store are now fullblown alkies/druggies

smartphone, yeah, that one looks HIGHLY addictive. I still don't have a cellphone. When I tell young people this they look at me with pity and glazed incomprehension.
"But..... but how do you contact people?"
"I have a telephone at home" I say. Of course, I don't tell them I never use that either. Don't want them to think I'm weird.

things I have quit
1. Gluten - because my gastroenterologist discovered I had coeliac disease - so that led to giving up beer (although there is GF beer, it is really a cruel alternate reality to ensure you stay miserable in the company of mates who considerately always ask "can I get you a beer?" after 4 fucking years). Oh, and bread (not such a big deal) and normal pasta (also not a big deal). But hey, at least distillation removes the gluten from barley, rye etc so hellooooooo, whisky!
2. Eating between 8pm and midday - OK, so my son got into this intermittent fasting thing, and talked me into it, so now I mostly stick to it. Despite not really wanting to lose weight, I did, but generally feel great. Who knew we need fewer than a gazillion calories / day?
3. Cycling - well, not for ever, but a bad accident a few years back, and lunatic cycling mates who insist upon riding at 4.30 am made me drift away. Now I run. Used to hate it. Now I don't.
4. Crack cocaine - no wait, my bad, that was on the "things I never got round to starting" list. Just skip that one.
5. Hair - one day it said "I quit you" and the fucker left. Mostly. Enough stayed to taunt me. Hair is so passive aggressive.

So now I'm a bald, deprived, fasting, fitness fanatic GF zealot without a drug habit!
And people wonder why Gagger put me here!

I gave up all sugar and grains a few years ago and now eat LCHF 95% of the time. So that meant giving up beer, which is essentially liquid bread. Tried other options, but without a serious supply of animal protein and fat, I just lost all my strength and health gains

I also gave excuses about not getting to the gym consistently, now doing 3 to 4 times a week and have so for over a year and seeing pretty good results in a strength program (pulled a 160kg deadlift & a 130kg squat (with depth) this week) This was the real big positive change, work has been very stressful and workouts have kept the stress at bay

I also gave up running and other long form cardio, for me, they were all just injury in-between repetition strain injuries. HIIT like sled pushes, air bike and farmers walks instead for 15-20 mins is sufficient when added to the barbell work

I've got rickety knees so this is very appealing. I gave up running when I was 19 after bits of cartilage began working themselves loose and have been cycling since, but now that's starting to aggravate the joints.

Pilates is fantastic for the core and I'm doing things in that studio that 18yo me could only have dreamed of, but it doesn't get the heart pumping.

The intermittent fasting experiment is a good one. I played with the 5-2 but found the fast days drove me to distraction and any gains would be obliterated the next day. I've since taken on a similar approach to cyclopath, at least during the week, where dinner is followed by lunch at midday.

Re. booze, it's so intrinsically tied to my social networks that going cold turkey is frankly frightening. But I'm trying to avoid Friday drinks and limit the number of silly blowouts throughout the year.
