RWC 2019 1/4 Final England vs Australia

Really happy for Jordy.

The one head scratching selection I've never come to terms with is why does Cheika keep Taniela Tupou on the bench?
It's a do or die match. Tupou is a tone setter, One that would leave England knowing what kind of match the wallabies plan on playing the moment the ball is kicked off.

Wish he'd earned the start because he is the best scrummager and ball running prop on the planet.

I am thinking the starting THP gets replaced about 20 minutes into the game.

Thor comes on and goes crazy for 20 minutes prior to half time, has a rest and then does 10 minutes more rampaging in the 2nd half before an "injury" occurs and the original THP returns to the field to complete the match after a good rest.

Risk of injury to the starting player in this situation would be heightened quite a lot.

Reds and Wallabies I say, unless bring Foley back and play him at 10 with To'omua at 12.

9. White 10. To'omua 11. Koroibete 12. JOC (James O'Connor) 13. Petaia 14. DHP 15. Beale

21. Powell 22. TK 23. Hodge

Christ if that's the best we can come up with post Check, I'm going to give the game away.

Though not as dire as a locking depth.

I reckon we are very well positioned at lock for the future.

Next season we'll have Rodda, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) and Simmons as current Wallabies. Matt Philip as a capped Wallaby and a host of talented youngsters like Hockings, Blyth, and Swain who already have reasonable Super Rugby experience and then the next group of Frost, Wood, Hosea etc. Also the potential that someone like Will Skelton comes back and has a crack for the 2023 RWC.

We're certainly heavily reliant on Rodda next season and it will look thin on the ground if he's unavailable but from 2021 onwards I think we will have a good stable of quality locks that are also really young.

Fair. It is 2020 that looks scary atm, hopefully those young guys step up, are all reg starters in Super Rugby and show good form. Not just simply be the next tall people in line.

If coaching test teams is a game of chess when dealing with opposition coaches, has Cheika put Jones in check with the Petaia selection? It seems that Eddie was spooked by the Wallaby team.
If so, I'm hoping for an Aussie win by checkmate. Forwards win the upfront battle and Kerevi scores two tries to seal the game.
You read it here first.

Hopefully the Spectre of Skeen has spooked Farrell into attempting to chop the rampaging Kerevi, where after repeatedly being ragdolled into the turf, he throws a shoulder and gets a nice bit of rest

Coleman heading overseas too?

You know I wish Kimlin would return to Aus too, he was in superb form before he left. I don't think he's too old now too.

Were you anticipating a yellow lounge chair for the rest, or a red chair?

John Thornett (49)
For the sake of a pure game, neither. But he's really owed some natural justice in a deep shade of red

Coleman is going to London Irish.

Kimlin retired from professional rugby, moved back to Canberra and I believe is an assistant coach at Wests.

I call Bullshit, there is no way AAA isn't the better scrummager, and his stats for ball running are way ahead. I love Thor, but impact in the second half is his go to game.
