TVNZ will not screen the All Blacks' playoff for the Rugby World Cup bronze medal with Wales on Friday night
"TVNZ was given rights to cover 12 matches and unfortunately the bronze game wasn't one," a TVNZ spokeswoman said.
Guess they never thought they would be in it, interesting as the 4 pool games, 4 qtr's 2 semi's, final and 3/4 playoff is 12 games

This is an entirely lose-lose match for the AB's. Lose and they're known as the team who lost to a heroic walking intensive care unit representing a country we've not lost to since about the mid-Jurassic epoch. Or they win, and they're instead known as the guys who beat up a bunch of cripples from a country that's not even represented on their own states flag, in a game no one cares about.

Just scrap the thing.

Back in the day the 3rd-place playoff winner qualified automatically for the next Cup while the loser had to qualify. Now that the top three in each Pool qualify automatically it's a bit (as in a lot) irrelevant & I'm struggling to think of another comp outside the Olympics where the losing semi-finalists play off for Bronze (& I think at least some Olympic sports now give Bronze medals to both SF losers).

That said I'll be parked up in front of my TV at 10 tonight 'cos it's still AB v Wails.

Three things about NZ v Wales:

1. Wales are the only Test team to have beaten NZ in their first meeting.

2. Wales once had a 75% win ratio (literally 3-from-4) v NZ: SA peaked at ~60% after their 4-0 sweep in 1949, no-one else has ever cracked 50%.

3. Just prior to the 2011 Semis an Aussie colleague asked a Welsh customer (in his 40's, only moved out from UK 2-3 years prior) who he'd rather Wales play if they made the Final. "Australia" he said "because we've never beaten NZ". Wouldn't believe me when I tried to tell him they had, a few days later he comes back & says "you're right, but 1953 may as well be never".

Well my mate I attend rugby with all the time is Welsh, and I do remind him Wales have knocked over the ABs, but as we are both only 65 it has to be our older siblings who can tell us about game. I do find it amazing in truth as Wales have had some bloody great teams with amazing players over the years, I still look back at 71 Lions as probably best rugby team to tour NZ in my time, and was full of brilliant Welsh players!!
