Reds 2020

The combined run with the Broncos this morning was brutal conditions wise .

35 degrees by 10am , visiting teams early in the season could really struggle.

I have long said that not using the Broncos is one of our silliest moves. They are such a well run organisation.

Great to see to them join forces, but gee the Reds lads looked ordinary in comparison. Hopefully this lets them understand the physically bench marks.

I thought the Reds looked good .

Each team did their own warm up , once they combined it was the Broncos’ show , everything was more league specific and as you would think , the Broncos found it easier going than the Reds.

Physically, thought the Reds looked sharper than same time last year .

In all of the wrestling stuff (obviously league players do more of this) the Broncos dominated.

The general athletic profile of the players was in stark contrast.

I really hope we do more of this, because we will only benefit. The long term value add is that it might lead to a Broncos-Reds double header at Suncorp if the camaraderie is excellent. Brisbane is their town, not ours, we cannot compete with their resources so we should try to align as much as possible.

People says rugby people are different, but what is a ubiquitous human desire is winning.

In years gone by it's not really helped though, coz the reds have just mishandled due to "sweaty" conditions.

But then later season games the reds struggled with the "dewey" ball.

Hopefully there's been a focus in ball handling this off season.

Did you go watch the training Bobby?

I think the divide in talent is pretty clear, but if you don't thats fine.

Despite being different games, if you looks at the players athletic profiles ie how well they perform athletically I don't think too many of the Reds lads hold a candle.

Izaia Perese looks a completely different athlete now to the one that was at the Reds, said he had never trained harder when he went to Red Hill etc - despite being the best Qcup back he can't find a way in just yet - but that might change next year. Fiji's U19 Rugby Union World cup player of the tournament is barely up to Qcup at this stage of his development.

This is not a shot at rugby, more just a realisation that many more people play league and that The Broncos have an enormous network of scouts to get the best ones and warehouse the rest from 13 years old.

Annoying thing is that we don't get to make use of that advantage until round 4 :(
Yes it’s a pity the first round game against the Brumbies is in Canberra.

The Brumbies melting in the afternoon sun early this year at Suncorp worked well in the Reds favour.

I simply asked if you attended the training, because the short video didn't have much footage and you made comments about the training.

Seeing the teams lined up together it was very obvious they play very different games . The position specific body shape just doesn’t exist in league anymore.

What the Broncs excel at would make for a high impact but ineffective rugby team . The differences in league and union are greater than the common ground , but that wasn’t the point of the exercise. The Reds were the the guests, Seibold seems genuinely keen to share the love. Hopefully the Reds got something out of it.

Sounds like the Broncs had the better skillset by reading the above. How was their scrummaging, lineout and general ruck work? Or when you say skillset was better, they were better at passing? anything else?

Sigh... yes Australian rugby is thriving we have nothing learn from league & most importantly we would beat them at the sport we play... how good!!! Their line out play is very average.

Anyone who thinks the Reds are run with even a modicum of precision that the Broncos are, are having a genuine laugh.

Do you really want to be taking lessons from the team that just a few months ago had the biggest loss in NRL finals history?

Hopefully the Reds took lessons on what not do the night before important games.

Broncos are also a good example, that the best facilities in the code don’t translate to immediate success. That will be a key point for Reds with the proposed Ballymore upgrade, and also reflects Brad Thorns philosophy about ditching the new Reds gym and moving back into the shed.

That’s surprising given the likes of Wilson, McReight and Wright aren’t exactly slouches.
Just goes to show you can’t just judge players fitness simply by how they look.

Let’s just block each other? I get no value from your posts - I’m sure it’s mutual.

I’ll go first.
