Newspapers and their paywalls :(

Maybe they'll do something similar to Nathan Grey and have him involved elsewhere in the system. Eg. 7's for the Olympics or something. Thats assuming they value his services.

Hmm can’t remember the exact article, but mentioned in the articles in recent days

Edit, reported by Wayne Smith:

"He insisted he wanted fresh ideas, which necessitated a cleanout of the Wallabies staff, a process that would also include Cheika’s skills coach Mick Byrne." Wayne Smith

My preference has always been that a national skills coach focus shouldn't be the Wallabies. Much prefer his time to be spent with junior/age group/schools teams.

I will say however at the time of his appointment focus on skills with the Wallabies was certainly required. The improvement of the forwards interplay skills was especially evident.

He's taken up role as Director of Rugby for Austin in Major League Rugby. So, that's not in the stars.

The President of the USA is about that age, the current front runner for the Democrats is older.

Incidentally, the search is being conducted by a highly regarded executive search organisation (Korn Ferry). I can assure you that they look everywhere.

It did occur to me, however, (unworthy thought), that the game started in Australia at the University of Sydney. Maybe it will end there, too.

It's perhaps not ideal however for a sport that is trying to navigate a changing landscape and needs to engage a new audience.

That's not saying that David Mortimer might be wholly unsuitable for the job. If he knows what his limitations are, what is required and can facilitate that happening then go for it.

I have said it before and will say it again, who would want the job? That is the first requirement for the search. Age is irrelevant, and I would guess that the potential candidates will all be from the older echelons. People who are not looking for a career enhancing position, a step up.

The best candidate is likely to be somebody who is established in life, and is not looking for financial rewards or CV boosts.

Seems a bit of an odd one having Cheika involved for the Six Nations not having been involved/having any history with the tournament.

He's commentating for the BBC/part of a panel. Compare what the BBC have to what FoxSport dishes up to us;

England's former captain Dylan Hartley and ex-Australia coach Michael Cheika are also among the new names to join the BBC's line-up, which once again features Martin Johnson, Paul O'Connell, John Barclay, Brian Moore, Jeremy Guscott, Andy Nicol and Chris Paterson.
