Brumbies 2020

Brumbies-Sharks was played at Manuka in 1996.

The Fan Forum last year explained that they're testing different potential explainations for why people don't like Canberra Stadium. If it's transport to and from the game, then Manuka should have similar issues for attendees. Likewise, if it's parking, then Manuka will be a lot worse.

But if it's things like nearby venues, then people will be able to walk out of the game and meander over to a heap of places for food, drinks, or w/e they want at Manuka, Kingston, or the Foreshore.

Parking, certainly more difficult...........

But in terms of transport - certainly much easier as Manuka is central and it’s easier to get to for people in the southern suburbs.

I’m sure all of those rich rugby families who live around the suburbs surrounding Manuka will be very happy.

He was given a go at the Tahs but didn't impress and was nowhere near his SS form. He did have a better season last year though

Last year was the year where he really looked like he might make it at Super level. Finally looked like he was playing with some confidence again like back in the SS days. Needs to show some performance consistency this year and he could be a great 12 for the Brumbies.

That light rail of yours due to do to any of those stadiums anytime soon?

Brumbies game against the Stormers in 2020 will be at Manuka

It will be interesting to see how supporters feel about it. Not sure it will be universally welcomed and may cause the Brumbies some issues and potential fall out (especially as supporters purchased memberships unaware of any games being moved).

I would hate to miss any Brumbies home game but my initial reaction is combined with poor seating resulting in a shite view as its an oval (Brumbies have not clarified how they will do the seating for members yet), poor catering facilities (it's actually got less facilities than GIO - at the BBL games it's mostly food vans), combined with the parking hassles etc, this may be a game I would consider skipping. :(

Still can't believe a replica of Bankwest or the Dunedin stadium hasn't been fast-tracked for construction on the Civic pool site. Don't think it would really need a roof as the design is very different to the wind tunnel that Bruce stadium is.

Central location, great for local economy as fans pour out and straight into the Civic nightlife area.

Or better yet why Braddon oval wasn't snapped up is beyond me, instead of building more shitty apartments.

It’s odd they decide to move the game this late, especially after 80% of members have purchased their membership already, it’s really something you should advertise on the membership pack, sure it’s only one game, but it still over 10% of the value of the membership to what may be a worse off match day experience.

ACT Govt just cut ~75% of supported VET places (e.g. childhood education, construction, etc.) to save $3m. Did it after enrollments were finalised, too. Not what you expect from a Govt about to drop $300m on a new stadium.

Brumbies made it public that it was their plan to play the Stormers at Manuka at the fan forum last year (Sep 11 2019), which people reported on.

GWS Giants have first rights for any weekend, but they gave their approval in late October.

Crimes reported that ACT Govt were considering the request on Dec 4th. Apparently it involved a variation to the terms for the Brumbies to use Canberra Stadium.

Brumbies get final approval from ACT Govt on Friday, publicise the final agreement yesterday. Members explicitly advised of how this affects their seating.

I think it’s a great idea, they keep seeing crowd numbers drop and are one of the few teams to be actively trying different things to see what affects crowd attendance. They publicised it earlier than membership renewals opened. Couldn’t really have managed it any better.

Had a discussion with a member this morning who is investigating if the Brumbies have breached any consumer laws based on you point above. Some members purchased pre-paid parking as part of their membership and there is no parking at Manuka. I have seen another saying they purchased the memberships knowing they could walk to the game at GIO.

We are reaching out to the Brumbies as some of our group don't want to go to Manuka and are pretty pissed off. The seating is not comparative so it better to watch it on TV. We are considering it as well TBH.

This could get messy if enough revolt. Brumbies hinge part of their memberships marketing off same seats for members at GIO. I hope this doesn't come back to bite them.

Why would anyone revolt?

This was discussed with fans and reported on back in September.........

Sure, the stadium is not as good for rugby, and parking will be more difficult (although not that difficult, it’s Canberra FFS), but it’s in a better part of the city surrounded by amenities and the location is easier for more people to travel to.

Not such a big deal for one game.........

Adam84

Nick Farr-Jones (63)
Really if it was discussed in September but never confirmed they should probably still have caveated or advertised it on the membership sale to make those people aware what they're actually paying for, that's pretty straightforward. One game is still a fair chunk of the membership value when there are only 8 home games in a season, especially if people have paid for extras like parking.

Someone can probably get standing to bring it to a civil court, but the cost of the legal team required to win something is a massive gamble and just not worth it.

Also, your team is being smart and actively testing the contributing factors to crowd attendance and fan satisfaction, while also keeping an eye on the whole debacle with the AIS and the lack of certainty around the future of Canberra Stadium. So you want to......... sue them?

maybe people just want a reimbursement for purchasing something they now can't use, or in lieu of new information don't want?

I don't think it's a massive stretch to say this should have been caveated or noted when members bought their packs.

Talking points:
- Slipper the reserve THP, is this a sign that the coaches doubt Vui and Ross, or just a vote of confidence in Lloyd?
- Douglas and Neville over Enever, is his Brumbies career over?
- Lolesio gets the starting 10 jersey, what’s a pass mark for his first performance?
- Wright and Kata on the wings, the League converts taking over out wide, can they be our Lote and Sailor?

The information was available five days before memberships opened (11 Sep 2019: public disclosure of intention to play the Stormers game at Manuka Oval, with a full explanation of why. 16 Sep 2019: membership sales open.). At that stage, just pay attention to the news around the team.

The packages were also marketed as having at-level seating (e.g. gold members get gold-level seats):

If they host a QF at Manuka, maybe you could claim false advertising? But ffs, celebrate that your team is hosting a QF, and it would probably be informed by how the Stormers game goes anyway.

Also, if you can’t get to Manuka Oval, then I seriously doubt your ability to get to Bruce Stadium, so you’re not going to get a pass on accessibility. On a disability level, Manuka Oval is more accessible as well.

And if you don’t want to go to the Brumbies game because it isn’t at Bruce Stadium, and that’s the only reason left to you at this point, well, what the hell are you going to do when they rip it down?

It’s all nonsense.

I think everyone just needs to relax and not be so defensive about this, its not massive criticism to suggest they could have included a notation about the manuka on the membership packs(which they didn't), and i get they made a statement about it in September but that wasn't confirmed nor notated on the membership.

Shit its not a big deal, but all of a sudden we can't say something which might even be a small improve for the next time?
