Brumbies 2020

Parking, certainly more difficult.....

But in terms of transport - certainly much easier as Manuka is central and it’s easier to get to for people in the southern suburbs.

I’m sure all of those rich rugby families who live around the suburbs surrounding Manuka will be very happy.

Good, keep them happy. Manuka it is.

Why would anyone revolt?

This was discussed with fans and reported on back in September...

Sure, the stadium is not as good for rugby, and parking will be more difficult (although not that difficult, it’s Canberra FFS), but it’s in a better part of the city surrounded by amenities and the location is easier for more people to travel to.

Not such a big deal for one game...

No it wasn't discussed with fans, it was an idea that was suggested and only announced yesterday.

For many it is a big deal. It makes a difference for us due to several factors and if the Manuka game was confirmed earlier it would have influenced our decisions around the memberships we purchased.

The information was available five days before memberships opened (11 Sep 2019: public disclosure of intention to play the Stormers game at Manuka Oval, with a full explanation of why. 16 Sep 2019: membership sales open.). At that stage, just pay attention to the news around the team.

The packages were also marketed as having at-level seating (e.g. gold members get gold-level seats):

If they host a QF at Manuka, maybe you could claim false advertising? But ffs, celebrate that your team is hosting a QF, and it would probably be informed by how the Stormers game goes anyway.

Also, if you can’t get to Manuka Oval, then I seriously doubt your ability to get to Bruce Stadium, so you’re not going to get a pass on accessibility. On a disability level, Manuka Oval is more accessible as well.

And if you don’t want to go to the Brumbies game because it isn’t at Bruce Stadium, and that’s the only reason left to you at this point, well, what the hell are you going to do when they rip it down?

It’s all nonsense.

Ah, the pesky T&C......

All details outlined in the Membership Brochure, the Membership Renewal Brochure and the Membership Website form part of the Terms and Conditions. It is a condition of sale that all Members are subject to the Terms & Conditions of GIO Stadium Canberra.

Same-seat Renewal Period:
Brumbies members wishing to renew their same reserved seat Brumbies membership for the 2020 season have an exclusive renewal period until 5pm 1st of November 2019.

Membership Seating
Members purchasing reserved seat memberships online will be able to select their seating at the time of purchase (excluding those with 4 Game Memberships). Membership applications received in person will be date stamped upon receipt of full payment of the membership fee, or on payment of first instalment if selecting the monthly Brumbies Payment Plan.
If a member would like to request a change to their existing seat after the point of renewal, they are required to do so in writing by emailing membership@brumbies.com.au. Seat changes will not be accepted or processed over the phone.
Members from the previous season are allotted a priority period to renew their ‘same seat’ for the forthcoming season. After the renewal cut-off date (1 November 2019), same seat allocations cannot be guaranteed, and renewal seating will be allocated on a best available basis.

Pre-paid parking
Pre-paid parking can be purchased for the 2019 season through the Brumbies membership department. Pre-paid parking is limited and only available to full season Platinum, Gold, Silver & GA members.
Pre-paid parking is only available for the full 2019 season and cannot be purchased on a game by game basis.
The member must note that this is not reserved parking. The Brumbies cannot guarantee a car space will be available. The member will be issued with 1 parking pass for each Brumbies home game for the 2019 season excluding finals.
Pre-paid parking passes are only valid for the public car park and under no circumstance permit entry to the VIP car parks. Parking passes must be treated like cash, no replacements or refunds will be issued if passes are lost. Parking passes are transferable. Refunds will not be provided under any circumstances. Parking is subject to the Terms and Conditions of GIO Stadium Canberra.

As per Adam comment above, best intentions but they appear to have made some errors.

Genuine question, but what would you have done differently if you had known before you purchased that 7 games were at Canberra Stadium and one at Manuka?

some people just like to know exactly what they're paying for in advance, you guys are apparently happy for this kind of thing to happen.

Lets agree to disagree

I’m also sure there are going to be a lot of members happy with this decision..........

Well, actually no........... I definitely know a lot of members who are going to be very happy to travel to Manuka for a game.

I don't see the big deal. These venues at 15 minutes away from each other. Put on a couple of buses for the members who purchased paid parking. No cause for complaint.

Now if the Reds moved a game to Townsville after I'd bought a membership, that'd be cause for anger.

That's tough one BH as its very much a hypothetical.

But we would have explored membership options and if here were none probably forgone some of the memberships if not all and gone with a game to game scenario for just a few of our group. Supporter numbers are low so you have a fairly decent shot at getting your preferred seats back the following season.

As you would be aware it a significant investment for families so if its not giving us value there are plenty of other options. Our oldest has been to BBL games at Manuka on a few occasions now and when we we mentioned the Brumbies (who he loves) playing their he looked, confused, asked why and said we probably won't see what going on. TV was the solution he suggested until they are back at GIO.

Having kids we are still a little blown away that the Brumbies do this https://brumbies.rugby/news/2020/01/22/brumbies-game-day-experience and then move away from it.

If the reds game moved a game to Ballymore from Suncorp, 15mins away I wouldn’t be happy. Nostalgia aside, one offers a far better match day experience then the other.

I know many will be happy, but not all. I hope that they get a good crowd so it doesn't hurt the clubs bottom line.

How likely is the Brumbies match going ahead at this stage? Brumbies having their first 3 matches at home isn't ideal. Surely at least one gets called off?

The new policy will take into account particulate matter (PM) levels, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the area where the match is being played and the impacts of conditions in the environment and any symptoms athletes suffer.

A call on the match will be decided by an Air Quality Assessment Panel made up of medicos, match officials, match day operational staff and Super Rugby competition staff.

In this case... Manuka offers the better match day experience.

Balleymore is close-Ish to the bottom end of the valley & Suncorp is on Caxton street (which is a dive imo, but still a pub scene) - so not an improvement on game day experience as you put it in the Brisbane context. All hail Manuka, if people are not going to the cement icebox I applaud them looking into other alternatives.

So I believe GIO is between the Florey and Civic stations which currently have readings of 99-164 PM2.5.

The article doesn't state which PM levels would call the game off but if it was played right now as in 1 hour would it go ahead?

In my unqualified opinion, I would be leaning towards no. Later in the day is usually worse.
