Waratahs 2020

I'm liking that the A team concept has been embraced by the Super Rugby teams. Gives the fringe players a chance to put down the tackling bags and push their cause and get them some valuable game time if they do get a call up. Hopefully will have a few of the game day 23 from the Tahs looking over their shoulder and lift their game. There's quite a few of them on shaky ground.

My thoughts..I think Gamble could come in for Swinton. Tafa will put pressure on Dempsey if he doesn't step up, but if Hanigan returns soon he might have to wait. Mason was servicable but didn't stand out. I like Clark for his defense and Tepai deserves a shot.

Gamble, Tafa in. Swinton and Beanpole out

Best we can hope is that some of the players with potential see some of it. Maybe we can get a couple of upsets. It's gonna be a pretty awful season.

The season will be bad and I think many will be moved on at the end of the season. The hope is these kids get a run and aren't too overawed and don't get destroyed for it.

Penney inherited a mess left to him by Gibson and Hoare. This season will be a chance for Penney to see how the kids are doing and if they are/aren't ready.

I think he will look to recruit size and strength for next season.

There is talent. Need the forwards to step up. How good do the Brumbies and Reds backs look behind solid forward packs. This season was always going to be a rough one.

Who would you target in the Aussie system that the other clubs don't have tied up?

A good opportunity for players in the Shute Shield/Hospital Cup/GRR to potentially get a contract. Problem is we really need some players to hit the ground running, dominating early or the next wave of young players to be Super Rugby ready sooner than later.

Because they have forwards. They have size and strength not light and mobile.

Miracle that these two teams managed to recruit them but apparently there haven't been any over the past few years

Molman, I recall Donaldson playing 10 in the NRC and Harrison at 15 more often. Am I mistaken?

Also, for your elucidation, the opposition was the Brumbies Runners, not the Rebels.

The other way around for most of the games with Donaldson being shifted to the bench for a game. They did flip it for the last two rounds (Vikings/Force), though I'm pretty sure Harrison shifted back into 10 when Donaldson was brought off so perhaps that's why you thought Donaldson was playing 10 more often. Harrison also kicked most the conversions in those games from memory too.

There was a round where Tane Edmed was the starter. It was when that arguably silly Randwick v Argentina game was happening. Would have prefered seeing the boys in the NRC lineup rather than at that carnival but then it's hard to argue against club pride.

? I commented on the Waratah A's vs Rebels A game (from last weekend) and also the other game against the Brumby Runners (from the other day)

Understand your sarcastic comment but past aside I'm honestly curious who we should be looking at. Who is out there we don't have to wait a couple of years to come good like the Red's and Brumbies have been doing? Fear Penney isn't going to have time to slowly bring players through unless we are willing to look like the Reds have the last couple of years. The fans will want results sooner than later.

Wish we'd nabbed Slipper when the Reds shafted him, boy is he looking good atm.

Will Skelton would be so handy right now. Ryan McCauley just doesn't look like he'll ever be bigger.

I'd love to see the big boy in sky blue again. Heck, even Coleman would be great if he's sick of the English weather. Was looking good for London-Irish in their recent game.

Could do a lot worse than Fergus Lee-Warner. Don't know what his contract situation with the Force is though.
