Brumbies 2020

There are a lot of factors and I am surprised at some of the comments going back a far as Andy Friend and even the board issues. All history as far as I am concerned so I don't get why people are hanging on to it TBH.

But this is the only data we have and the core issue is without supporter growth for the Brumbies the future is grim. Maybe we do need to start looking at some of the left field stuff we think is rubbish but might be valid to many others? There was plenty of local press about it so maybe it had more of an impact and a wider reach than we all thought. It not like Canberra is big and the Brumbies supporter base is expansive, so even putting of a small portion of the market still could have a big impact.

We also need to compare apples. The Reds numbers are bouncing back slowly, the Tahs numbers are ok and the Rebels have had some growth. We simply are still bleeding numbers yearly more so than other teams even though we the team having success.

Super Rugby in general doesn't have many casual fans. This is not a Brumbies issues, but a whole super xv issue.

Odd. I sat amongst at least a couple of hundred (probably closer to 1000) casual Tahs fan in Wollongong the other night let alone the strong contingent of Chiefs fans also there. Don't think I imagined that. Lord Laurie was having a great time up on the hill watching with them just behind us.

So the Tahs, Rebs, and Reds numbers aren't down too? Only the Brumbies? As a Brumbies fan, that's pretty shit. They deserve better.

I can understand some members who have forked out for parking at Bruce being a little put off, but as I've said earlier in this thread - the location of Manuka stadium is infinitely better and is easier to access for half the territory, it's surrounded by food and drink options so people can actually go and do stuff prior to and after the match.

And ultimately.... it's one game.

That's the point I think Slim. Manuka is easier to access for half the territory, meaning it is harder for the other half. Sort of evens itself out in terms of numbers. Except that those who won't go to Bruce are already lost from the ground while moving to Manuka will possibly see some of those who do go now not turning up on game day. Looks like a lose/lose situation to me.

No, unless we're talking about Viking Park it's certainly not the point...........

The point is that Manuka is easier to access for most of the territory, as it lies deadset in the middle of Canberra, and a stone's throw away from our border cousins in Queanbeyan.

The current problem is that Bruce is not easy to get to for most people in the territory, particularly anyone south of Woden, as it's located in the north among a barren 1970's communist inspired wasteland surrounded by nothing.

Is that even a CIT still next door, or just another bygone relic of how the eastern bloc once imagined the future........ that future being at least twenty years in the past.

I thought McKellar's coaching was the only issue with the Brumbies?

Manuka has little appeal to families. The AFL and T20 have shown this.

Seem to have been plenty of families at the GWS & BBL games I've been to at Manuka. Certainly more than show up at Brumbies games, where the average age of the audience seems to be pushing 60 these days.

Are you talking about Manuka oval or Manuka dining precinct? We were talking about the latter. Possibly scroll back and read the conversation? o_O

The NZ government is imposing a 14 day quarantine period for travellers from all countries except the Pacific.

means the double header with the Raiders next week in Auckland is off and other games will surely be cancelled.

Busted arm for Allan Ala'alatoa and out for 6 weeks so the break has come at a good time. Scott Sio out with a hand injury isn't great either as it leaves the props stocks thin given LL-M is also out for the season.

I think you'll find this has happened at a lucky time, don't think there will be any rugby for atleast a month...

lolz.

Been watching some games from the last two seasons on Kayo - need to say this. Tom Wright and Andy Muirhead are legit freaks, they should be getting so much more hype.

Gutted this season has been canned - Brumbies were looking dangerous even with a few newbies, can't wait to see what happens next year.

Who do we lose from the roster after this season (assuming everything goes back to normal after beer flu ends) ?

Reckon Enever is out.
With Nic White coming in 2021, one of Joe Powell Ryan Lonergan and Isaak Fines might be gone too.
There's a bunch of players that were on 1 year deals that might have been in the works but I reckon the big danger is Kuridrani. He's only on until 2020 and has nearly 60 Test caps and with all the hype around Petaia at National level, then he might go overseas.

Obviously with everything going on at the moment and a lot of uncertainty, it's all just speculation.

Possibly Joey Powell with Nic White returning and both Lonergan and Fines coming through the development pathway. Don't think there will many, if any, moving elsewhere next year.

TK would be a very big loss. Len Ikitau, Solomone Kata, Tom Wright and even Guy Porter could fill the gap.

Big (and from what we've seen well deserved) hype about Ikitau's ability, big chance he's our 13 in 2030 (if Super Rugby still exists).

With Nic White coming in 2021.....

There is a lot yet to play out but I would suspect that post virus financials will determine a roster. Whites deal may never come to fruition as I am guessing all teams will be looking for a pretty low dollar roster.

The big question I have is what will happen to RA top up contracts? It may yet be smarter for RA to become insolvent, dissolve all the current deals and start afresh off a new wage base. I also think some team will be wanting to do the same but via negotiation rather than going bust.

The other issue is what happens to Super Rugby? How far off until it restarts? I suspect we won't see it until at least mid next year at best? I can envisage travel restrictions for a good 3-6 months. On top of that's it's hard to know what state Airlines will be in......

I would start thinking cut price domestic as a starter.

Can only agree with every word here.
