Reds 2020

From memory, and someone confirmed this from their memory, Jock hasn't kicked since school in the 2nds.(could be wrong but I dont ever recall him kicking for UQ)

In saying this I also heard along the grapevine (by someone tapped in) that the new kicking coach is trying to change the kicking style of the Reds kickers this season. With these 2 statements it might explain why Jock is performing the best at training. Less time/experience kicking therefore less the coach has to correct or less resistance to the coaches requests? By all reports Jock is kicking well/the best at training but it hasn't been converted to games yet.

Apparently there has been some push back from the more experienced kickers. Might explain the situation. I dont really know any more than that at this stage.

yeah I heard that about Aldred (kicking coach). He's changing techniques which, in the short term, can lead to failings under pressure but should come good. Theoretically. Hopefully him being back this week helps

FWIW, I was amazed to read via Jim Tucker in the CM that apparently Alred has been away overseas doing golf swing coaching for at least the last 4 weeks or so and, as you say RR, has only just returned to Ballymore.

How such a non-attendance with Reds' kickers in a crucial part of 2020 season makes any sense.....it doesn't compute.

Some of us said that, sadly, Campbell's terrible kicking and seeming kicking technique would surely lose a close match or two for the 2020 Reds and so it proved v the Cru. That was a True Reds Tragedy as the rest of their game was the best the team has played against high quality opposition playing away for, I would argue, 4-5 years.

If anything was to vindicate in a single 80 minute sequence the choice of Thorn as Reds HC, that game was it. Equally, he must take responsibility for such a high-risk choice as Campbell as lead place kicker; one could see from Campbell's first games as lead kicker, this choice was courting potential disaster in close games.

Alred has also been in NZ for one on one kicking with Beauden Barrett. It will be interesting to see the level of improvement in Beauden’s kicking over the next 6 months.

Also from memory, but I seem to recall Jock kicking quite a bit for Uni & also in NRC. I thought he was quite a successful kicker in those roles. But I could be wrong.

I don’t mind persevering when a much better outcome is on its way - but Campbell doesn’t strike them well at all. He doesn’t look to me like someone who just needs to tweak a few things.

Thorn: OK boys, who's going to shoot goal?
[Pack walks away to the scrum machine, most of the backline takes a step backward.]
Stewart: No thanks
JOC (James O'Connor): Nup
Hegarty: Yeah sure.
Thorn: Mate, you have to make the team.
Jock: OK, has to be me.

Punters: OK then Jock, You can fuck right off. Bench at best for you.

I made a similar post to this in the Reds v Bulls thread but its probably better suited here as it's a wider problem for the Reds.

Is anyone else sick of the rotating halfbacks over the last few years? I get some of it due to injury. But now with Malolua selected over Tate again, it seems we are failing to get any consistency with our scrumhalf, which in turn, can have impacts on the whole running of the team.

Genia, B Lucas, Frisby, Gale, Tuttle, Sorovi, McDermott and now Malolua have all seen time as the preferred halfback for the Reds since approx 2014 and have all started in at least 3 games during that period. There are plenty of variables in this obviously with departures, discipline issues etc. But it's just another reason why we can't see consistent results on the field, in my opinion.

Mate all good he wants to take responsibility but he’s the worst ball striker in professional history. It’s no hyperbole to say all first XV kickers are better.

Hope that QRU/Reds find a way to run some form of ballet to invite 500 fans to the Brumbies game and then each home game.

All they need to do is section the stadium seating off into areas of say 400 seats, it's big enough to take everyone who wants to come, but put them through different gates and into different sections. Problem solved.

Heck, probably enough seats to have two or more seats between every person. Designate seats so every individual person is spread out across the whole stadium :)
