How was Tupou! Starting THP scores in min 79 - when did you last see that!?!

Ease up on Zander guys. His first starting game, held the scrum. Expectations of more are probably excessive. I think he's going great for someone drawn in ahead of his time.

Liam is the new messiah.

The boys have the intestinal fortitude to come back from 17 down. Great head strength.

[Pity it's all over.]

Had a horror start, but improved as the game went on. Missed a one-on-one tackle and fell off another allowing the ball carrier to continue to make progress, both in the first five minutes of the game. Then at about 8 minutes, came in off his man in defense leaving Hegarty to face two attacking players on his own.

Not yet near a national spot.

Yet according to SANZAR official stats, he was still the Reds' leading tackler.

Wright’s leadership was fantastic
Tupou has cut the daft crap from last year
Hockings is starting to look like a Super player not a colt
Zander had a good run on debut
Blythe was v quiet
JOC (James O'Connor) is playing with maturity
Daugunu made a big impact

McReights link play is awesome. Use the break to start training McReight to be an awesome hooker He and Wright need to start. We’ll lose him to France if he gets stuck behind Wright and Hooper

Hamish is great at 12, especially given he hasn’t been playing it long, i put his name forward for the starting 12 position last year during the NRC and it was met with some scepticism, but I really think he has a nice rounded package to play 12. Similar to Anthony Fainga'a when he was at the Reds, he isn’t a flash player but he tackles hard and runs straight. He can also play the role of second playmaker if and when required. He will definitely be considered for the wallaby squad this year.

Thank fuck they came through with the goods - glad our last game of the year is such a dominant win. Would've sucked to finish on a low. On the flip side it's sad we won't get to see what this season could've become. Hopefully we can keep this going for next year.

He has an extremely deceptive stride as well. He has created quite a few half chances, when he gets space look out. Has matured a lot, he reads the play extremely well, knows when to unselfishly straighten and his passing has been top drawer.

Plays like a 3rd breakaway at the ruck, he needs to work on his cleanout technique but he gets over the ball well, tackles like a demon and is utterly fearless. Has a complete game and offers a lot more than any other alternative at the moment.

Man how good are Tupou's hands. Involved in an impressive number of try assists for a tight head. Also impressed by Wright's running game, links well with Wilson.

Wright & Wilson will do well to be in the team with Hooper and learn off him, they can only get better.

I don’t know if it is just stupid optimism, but one thing I like is that when we were down 17 - 0 I wasn’t thinking ‘shit, we are going to get smashed’. I always felt confident we would get our run of possession and, when we did, we would score some points. I’d go as far as to say I still felt confident we’d win.

I agree with the earlier comments about Hockings - really needs to work hard on his breakdown work but, that said, the rest of his game was a big step up from last week and showed much more of what he is capable of. I hope he can get his breakdown accuracy/effectiveness nailed quickly because, if he does, he will really be something (and if he doesn’t he’ll never really make it as a top line lock where breakdown skills are bread and butter).

Tupou keeps getting better. His game is far less about the big charges now - there is quality right through his game. He’ll still get better at scrums too, so it will be fun watching how good he can be.

Thorn’s interview after the gaming was compelling. I think there was a lot of relief along with a fair amount of pride. Clearly felt the importance of getting the win.

He commented specifically on the Malolua/McDermott selection and confirmed he was giving Malolua his opportunity and that there was nothing more to it then that.

I was thinking that they could still win, likely even. But It would be a lie to say I didn't have any anxiety, lol.

Oh, I wouldn’t say I wasn’t anxious - especially when they booted it down field and it turned into a foot race between Speight & Specman. If Specman had have won that race it might well have taken the wind completely out of our sails.

I guess it was more that we just hadn’t played any footy at that point and I still felt like we could run them down. Possession often goes in waves in rugby games and I was confident we would get our time with the ball. And if we could score 20 against the Crusaders I figured we could at least match that against the Bulls.

This Reds team can definitely attack, and their defence is generally pretty good too. They just need to improve their kicking and get their lineout functioning properly.

As much as I feel like yesterday's match probably should have been postponed, I still watched it (hypocrite!). The Bulls aren't the strongest opposition and were quite predictable, but it felt like the Reds grew up a bit yesterday. Aside from storming home after a >2 try deficit, they attacked the breakdown and opposition scrum at the appropriate moments, knew when the wide opportunities presented, and knew when to take advantage of broken play. They seemed to trust one another and the game plan.

I'm still bitter about them leaving so many points on the field last week. That was a golden opportunity to beat the cantabs and they blew it. But they responded well last night.

I think Hooper can learn from Wright.

Well anyway, I have to say how impressed I was with the Reds on Saturday, some of the offloading etc was pretty good, and I know it only the Bulls, and they faded badly in 2nd half, but I really thought there some very good signs. They would go into the enforced break somewhat content I think.

Ant Fainga'a wasn't nearly as skillful as Stewart. Loving the way he has played this year.
