Australian Rugby / RA

I'm finding it so fucking depressing.

Just when I thought we were onto something good - Castle, new broadcast agreements etc. - the same morons try to fuck it all up.

I'm not kidding when I say this - if Kearns takes over as CEO I'm turning my back on Australian rugby.

It's so fucking hard to love something that is determined to self implode at all costs.

The blazer brigade don't want the best for the game, they just want to steer the ship. They'd be more happy as King of a mud-village than as a pauper in Atlantis.

Yeh I am going to do the same in protest if appoint kearns as Kate wrote good article on this that same inner circle (read north shore, Alan Jones, fox sports crew etc) on the attack but when they fail to realise it is their own little posse behind their BS tirade against castle and not reading rugby public opinion is against rugby control handed back in the Mosman Carpark.

It is so clear the general rugby public has had a gutful of the inner north shore rugby boys club peddling their BS politics to the detriment of the game and want an outsider hence like Castle.

Rules changes would be handy, but the biggest question will be - where's the money? Any comp that includes less of NZ and S Africa will be much less valuable in terms of broadcast money from those countries, and probably Europe, all of which already subsidise us. It's gonna take a massive increase in Australian interest to make up for that loss. Or you just cut the budget back by 50% or so.

The sheep shagging kiwis have had enough opportunity to get over the ABs are everything so their is only so long you hold out an olive branch. Rather go 4 steps back to move 2 steps forward with long term moving 10 steps forward then waste more time being beholden to NZRU.

oh yeah, now I rememebr watching that when it happened. wonder if an infant Sonny Bill was watching at the time too and thought "lol, check out that fucken loser, stuffing up a once-in-a-lifetime Lions series for his whole country, lol."

so how was the blame levied out at the time? at a glance I'd say 67% campo/28% mardo/17% sonny bill/14% kearns/3% justin marshall/1% shiggins
Needs moar Shiggins.

“If Dave Rennie wants to go because Raelene is going then that’s OK. We will get someone else. He seems to be a very decent person but we don’t want someone to stay coaching the team because he likes the CEO. What has that got to do with anything?

I know Bob hasn't worked in 30 years, but, a big thing for most employees is who they work for and with. If you have a boss you enjoy working for, it goes a long way to retaining staff.

Also, he's been parroting the same lines for years; https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11833389

The thing that is hard to work out is Castle is only contracted till the end of the year, lets face it she's gone. Just not sure why all the posturing at this stage, is this to clearly label Kearns as the replacement.

The thing I want to know is what is Kearns agenda, what would he do that is any different. Okay sign up-to Fox but with what, does Super rugby continue.

I can't find the article (think it was smh about a month ago, where kearns advocated for a domestic competition).

I read in today's Australian that Super rugby is pretty much dead, players have advocated a 40% wage decrease from an organisation earning nothing and on the same page that the world club competition is now every year 6-7 weeks in June. I mean the whole thing is an absolute cluster fuck.

The big problem the game here has here is it doesn't know what it wants.

Man how many geriatrics are going to call for a club sport that about 10 people give a fuck about.

It certainly feels like many of the people suggesting Castle should be sacked are being less vocal about it now that they know who all her critics are suggesting who to replace her with.
Or they've been warned to shut the fuck up about trying to justify their position and so have decided not to post anything anymore about it.

Just seems a tad ironic how rugby here has happily bedded down with Fox spots for 20 years now, yet all of a sudden has woken and discovered she's the anti-Christ.
How is that ironic? It took a kiwi CEO to put the rights to market - pretty sure fans have had their doubts for years.

It would seem more than a little connected with them offering roughly 50% of the previous offer.

Amazing that a post from Sully on this forum is making a difference on other mediums with no connection to GAGR.

I am not far behind fans who say they will drop rugby if Kearns fills the CEO chair. But to be fair to the guy he has outlined some form of vision and direction forward. It goes along the lines of withdrawing from SANZAAR and going domestic. I suspect he is on the Jones/ Papworth bandwagon. Note that was withdraw from SANZAAR not simply Super.

I disagree with the test aspect of this vision, and while I’m quite happy with a domestic approach I’m unconvinced putting a Jones/Papworth team member in the driving seat is wise.

But the bloke does actually have a plan of sorts.
