How hard was that for figuring out a few billion?

"If you're on a minimum wage contract you're expected to have 3 months with of savings to get you through a rough patch, or you're some kind of feckless simpleton.

If you are multi-million pound company, shelling out gazillions in dividends left, right & centre, you're fine to get a bailout 'cos you can't keep the company running for more than a week."

That's the game.

So what is my 'ilk' Boyo?
All I am trying to do is have a discussion about COVID-19, as per the topic of this thread, without getting into some left versus right political argument.

You know exactly what it means; don't try to act the innocent.

You need lockdown enforcement to make people comply with social distancing whilst the threat is perceived as low. Hence why no social distancing has happened in countries without lockdown measures being enforced prior to their being a serious outbreak.

.

Well, we get to disagree, I have a greater trust in my fellow humans to make reasonable decisions most of the time without the requirement of force. So do we really need the threat of force to make good decisions in every day life?

and I do question the " no social distancing has happened in countries without lockdown measures being enforced prior to their being a serious outbreak"

"None" really?

Also worth noting that tomorrow will be 14 days since people went a little crazy on the Mothers Day weekend, packing the shops in Sydney, and no doubt plenty of family gatherings that weekend too. But no suggestion yet that it's led to a spike in infections, good news.

It is bizarre, in most situations no one invades someone else's space or likes to, if you do it to a girl it has always been deemed creepy and to a guy it is deemed aggressive

Maybe, but you also get these overly-friendly assholes who think they're being sociable by turning a routine handshake into a bro-hug or by kissing vague new acquaintances on the face.

If this pandemic sees the end of the "kiss hello," then perhaps some good will come of this.

And it will hopefully die a quiet death

President Trump's advisor:
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert, said on Friday that extended lockdowns could cause “irreparable” harm and worse health outcomes. (CNBC interview)

UBI? I don't see how it is anything other warehousing the unemployed under a new, improved label.

UBI is for the employed (full-time and part-time), the under-employed (by circumstance or by choice), those who are under-employed because of illness, those who are unemployed because of illness, the disabled (who can't work or won't be employed), etc.
It is not just for the unemployed.

It's almost as if socialist, class war obsessives who see everything through their own political prism are ignorant and don't give a sh*t about facts.

Who would've guessed?

As previously posted, this isn't about Left v Right, Male v Female, or White v Other leadership. Leaders from all of them have fucked up & others haven't (or at least not as badly/ yet). The only point of difference I can see is that those who've trusted the science & scientists have generally speaking done better than those who haven't (Sweden seems to be bucking that trend but it's possibly too early to be sure). The whole thing is so fucked up imo that trying to score political points off it is worse than petty.
