Papworth and Poido are insiders to their core, and can be put in the same basket as the 10 skippers.

Their views have hardly been ignored. I actually know for a fact that when Papworth was in full flight a few years ago, Bill Pulver invited him to spend a week at RA HQ, going through the books, sitting in on meetings etc.

I would've thought this is content they've already paid for.

Or, if not yet paid for given the delays in delivery, then somehow contracted to provide in that Foxtel is contracted to deliver 'Super Rugby' in 2020.

Nonetheless it may be that Foxtel lawyers had this game format deviant scenario covered in the 2015 contracts and given that there will of necessity be so many changes to Super Rugby 2020 they are able to decline to screen and pay any party unless they wish to under an entirely new negotiation.

I would be especially surprised if they did not screen NZ Super Rugby 2020 version as:

- no production or many other direct costs to Foxtel unlike Aust-based Super R (unless SKY Sports were trying to overcharge for transmission rights)
- large Kiwi rugby viewing population in Aust
- full live crowds
- they'd know there would be higher than normal viewership given pent up demand and so advertising likely to cover and more their comparatively small costs

If Foxtel do decline to broadcast NZ Super, I think we can take that as a proxy somewhat for its very low appetite to secure a version of Aust pro rugby in 2021.

Has this been confirmed? My understanding was that discussions were taking place.

Yeah, I would assume it's the same reason why the Australian comp has yet to be officially confirmed.

Considering Fox Sports have almost no content right now, it would be suicidal of them to not show these games.

I wish foxtel would just go bust already

Nothing would make me happier. As someone who only has Foxtel for sports I'm hanging on by a thread given the way they treated rugby and the reduction of content. After ESPN lost Redzone I bought GamePass and really enjoyed it. Feels better giving money directly to the product source rather than an aggregator where some of my money partly goes to the NRL and AFL. If RA do start producing their own content I'll definitely be ditching them. Can't wait until they start losing subscribers and can't afford those AFL & NRL payments.

FYI - SKY Sports in the UK (also owned my Murdoch) is showing Aotearoa

Fuck em, just do the self broadcasting dedicated platform. Outsource the production for this season to Double Take to see how it goes, then iron out any issues and ramp it up next year.

No skin in the game : Aotearoa

I didn't write that post very well. I didn't really add the second part. Specifically, did the Aotearoa comp require any broadcast renegotiation? I'd be far more inclined to think that the UK market would provide much higher bang-for-buck than Aus.

Should have stuck to an even six beers at lunch.

:)

You'd assume it feel under the current broadcast agreement

It's odd. I doubt I am the only rugby fan who has turned in Kayo until rugby returns. I would have been considering re-registering for Aotearoa if I thought Aus was on it's way.
