The same people who have been describing Foxtel/News Corp as enemies of Australian rugby and hoping that Foxtel don't televise rugby in Australia are now complaining that Fox aren't televising an NZ competition?

:)

You'd assume it feel under the current broadcast agreement

I don't see how, it's a completely different competition. NZRU have spent their time setting it up and negotiating with Sky, and I would assume that Sky have paid top dollar for the rights. They wouldn't be giving these rights away cheaply and one assumes from that that Foxtel doesn't see rugby in Australia as being a big earner.

No, that’s disingenuous at best.........

What's incorrect about it?

I've observed that many here blame News Corp journos for trying to bring down RA. I've observed many of the same people quite clearly saying that they don't want Foxtel involved in broadcasting rugby.

So why would these people now expect Fox to want to telecast a rugby tournament that is not part of any contractual agreement that they have with RA?

If they choose not to televise it, it's a purely commercial decision on their part. Why would that bother people who don't want Foxtel involved is a mystery.

Well they chased off the only meaningful competition by hatchet jobbing Raelene and Rugby in general meaning they are the only broadcaster showing Rugby in Australia and will be for the foreseeable future. This means that, since they don't want to take on the NZ Rugby comp we cannot watch it period.

Pretty fucking simple really.

I love the boomer idea that as long as something is 'commerical' its fucking A-okay with us.

These are not mutually exclusive feelings........

Fox do technically still hold the rugby rights for this year, and if they choose not to go ahead with the NZ comp then it's not going to air in Australia at this late stage.......... but that would be a poor commercial decision, considering they have no new content to offer subscribers outside of the NRL and AFL.

.

Maybe nobody else thinks it's worth the effort to televise it. Just because you like watching rugby on TV doesn't mean that the rest of the population does. Bit of a 1st world problem really.

Things have to be 'commercial' for a private company to undertake it whether it's TV or anything else. It's not a boomer idea, it's just reality and you might need to understand that.

The only media company that doesn't need to make a profit is the ABC, maybe they might like to televise an NZ rugby competition to meet your needs?

The world doesn't owe you anything unfortunately.

Maybe that don't think it's such a great commercial strategy to televise Super Rugby? It would be odd if they did something against their own commercial interests? Time will tell.

The great commercial strategy will be Fox will use the savings in the RL deal cut offer in rugby to 30mill. Delaney will present to board cut costs by 100 mill and secured rugby subscribers whilst picking up his bonus check if 5 mill

They are really doing a number on Aus rugby

Derpus, as someone touched on above, it's a real possibility that Fox Sports are tying in the broadcasting of post COVID NZ Super Rugby with their negotiations with RA re post COVID Aust Super Rugby.

Partly as Sky TV NZ may well want to also broadcast this latter Aust comp and thus the two overlapping post COVID commercial TT broadcasting deals are interwoven in the paying and commercial terms thereof.

Rather amusing post from the Foxtel thread re NZ Super Rugby broadcasting on Foxtel and thus a rugby-loving (Kiwi) customer's frustrations (like many there) re trying to get them to even understand what he's talking about........maybe the chickens know
