Maybe nobody else thinks it's worth the effort to televise it. Just because you like watching rugby on TV doesn't mean that the rest of the population does. Bit of a 1st world problem really.

Things have to be 'commercial' for a private company to undertake it whether it's TV or anything else. It's not a boomer idea, it's just reality and you might need to understand that.

The only media company that doesn't need to make a profit is the ABC, maybe they might like to televise an NZ rugby competition to meet your needs?

The world doesn't owe you anything unfortunately.
Yeah but why the fuck would i be happy that they are fucking Rugby in Australia over and they aren't showing NZ Rugby, regardless of the reasons. Actually, who gives a fuck about the reasons? who cares about commercial realities? No one. Im not fucking employed by these fluffybunnys. I just want to watch rugby.

How on earth is it inconsistent to want them to show as much rugby as possible while they have a deathgrip on the code and want them to otherwise have nothing to do with the code because of the same fucking deathgrip?

But thanks for the very informative post about how private companies work. I've taken detailed notes.

Its hard to figure Fox Sports motivation here, Geez the Blues v Hurricanes on Sunday is just a must, f--k a dry track and first comp to have a crowd, there talking a sellout that may be a game to remember.

Are Sky sports asking to much to show the game, Fox not interested? are Sky Sports (long term)maybe looking at a streaming service to all those expat Kiwis in Australia.

My understanding is that for Fox to show the games they have to honor the current Super Rugby deal or flesh one out with RA. The moment they choose to show these games the tap turns back on to RA in terms of tv dollars. Fox unlike the overseas sports networks haven’t been paying during the shut down period. I don’t blame them for doing it (although just about every other networks aligned to rugby around the world has kept the money coming to the unions). It’ll put a bit of pressure on them to sort out a deal with RA by the end of the week to show the kiwi games.

Edit: just realised someone has mentioned something similar in previous pages

This is my (more optimistic) crack at speculating at what the rugby landscape will look like in 2022 and some of my reasoning:

https://www.theroar.com.au/2020/06/07/my-fearless-predictions-for-rugby-in-2022-and-beyond/

Attached is visual of it.

Again, just speculating in good fun, but if my predictions are correct re the new global season about to be thrust upon us and the future of Super Rugby, then here is another possibility if Rugby Australia are brave and bold enough to build a domestic comp out of a revamped NRC:

If you look at the attachment, it follows the idea of a 10 team NRC. Maybe a little idealistic, but if that's where we want to get to, then we need a bold vision.

It starts after the Rugby Championship because it wouldn't work to make it compete against club rugby without the test players in it. But once the test players are available, it will be the main game.

Each team plays all the others in a round Robin (9 weeks) with 3 weeks of finals = 12 weeks total with no byes. Five games across each weekend!

Then a week off before a 'state of origin' series using NSW, Qld, and a best of the rest/barbarians team. Each team plays the other two home and away over 6 weeks (two automatic byes included).

The following week the winning SoO team will play in a 'super bowl' against the winner of what ever comp the NZ teams are in.

After a week off, there would be a possible v probables. This would run in conjunction with a NI v SI game in NZ (see below). And would be good tv viewing filling the 5.05 and 7.05 timeslots. If we're going down the NRC domestic path, then we need these type of games.

Just a note, if we go NRC domestic, I believe our NRC teams would be be too uncompetitive for a champions league against NZ teams. I know that might seem strange if the Japanese teams will be involved. But I have a feeling that they will have a better ability to attract o/s players to increase depth. Another idea might be to enter some rep/origin teams into a champions league, but then these newly formed teams would be playing against teams that have just played a whole season together, so that wouldn't work. Better to have a 'super bowl' event after our 'origin' teams have got a few games under the belt.

On the second table/graph in the attachment. I've predicted how I think this would affect what NZ do.

Following Tom Vinicombe's thinking (https://www.rugbypass.com/news/how-new-zealands-reported-replacement-for-the-endangered-super-rugby-competition-might-function/), if NZ attempt to reposition their franchises to create 6-7 teams out of 14 provincial teams + the addition of a PI team, then they could have an 8 team comp home and away for 14 weeks + 2 byes = 16 weeks. Top two move through for a 2 week champions league with Japan's top two involving cross over semis, with a final between the two winning teams the following week.

After a week off, the winning team plays the winner of our 'origin' series in a 'super bowl’.

After another week off NZ will be able to play a NI v SI game, which I believe they will make a permanent part of the calendar, and which will double as an All Black trial. This will run in parallel with our possible vs probables match.

Underpinning TRC would be the Mitre 10 Cup which would also act as a selection trial for their Super Rugby teams.

It's all about stimulating fresh ideas.

"We hate FOX (despite them being the only broadcaster who offered $ (which they no longer have post-COVID) for a broadcast deal, rejected by Raelene) and we don't want them anywhere near our game."

Fox don't buy rights for Super Rugby Aoteroa...

"How dare they, what a disgrace..."

:D:rolleyes:

The 60,000 (?) viewers that they might get for an NZ derby ain't a major driver for them on the first weekend of AFL being back, with NRL also up and about.

They already have one ready to go. Sky Sport NZ own RugbyPass.

You must be the Love Child of Quick Hands

I dont mind this concept simply because it will mean more professional spots for Aus players. (Granted, many wont be highly paid) but more opportunities for more players.

I think you over complicate it with the possibles and probables stuff, The 'Super bowl" idea is a good finish

Try this: we hate Newscorp's Fox for throwing a completely infantile tantrum when RA went to see if anyone else was interested in the rights. In this tantrum they behaved appallingly to get what they want, dragging the game, damaging its reputation constantly and then offering a pitiful amount for the game they apparently desperately want. Then after throwing this tantrum to get the game they don't even fucking show it.

I can also oversimplify things to sound superior. Do one.

This caught my eye in the Comments section:

"ChilliFry36 MINUTES AGO
Got this from Foxtel:
Thank you for bringing this up and rest assured that this is already a known concern and this is one of your priority this week. I was able to check it further and found out that our Broadcasting team is still on the process of getting the rights to have it aired this next Saturday. I also sent a request on them expedited the process especially that a lot of our customers are looking for it. Rest assured that we'll let you know by uploading it to the TV Guide once we already have it."

Oh well, at least we know what Shiggins is up to these days......

We hate the only broadcaster who has ever paid for live Super Rugby in Australia? And without whom the competition WOULD NOT EXIST?
