Reds 2020

Mate, I don’t know where you pulled that from. If that was the case, our Reds would be the top Aussie team in the conference. We breed more top talent in QLD only for other states and countries to swoop in and take some of our top talent.

I hear that mentioned a lot, the talent coming out of the Queensland nursery and anecdotally it does seem to hold some truth but is it actually empirically true that more top talent is coming from Queensland? Has anyone actually sat down and looked? otherwise I'm not sure we can bandied it around as fact. If it is indeed fact, then the question for other states would be why and what they can learn from it.

give me a definition of 'come from QLD' and I'll have a look at it.

I have seen this before.

I think it's fair to say that in the last couple of years that Queensland has outdone NSW with the top under 20s talent that has come through.

NSW and Qld certainly make up the bulk of the players entering the professional ranks.

I love how Rugba Leeg is it's own category.

Lots of those more recent leaguies were QLD as well - Rogers, Sailor, Tuquiri, Folau, Hunt

I guess you would have to say Queensland schools, maybe clubs, rather than born in Queensland. So that most time spent between 12-19 origin value is probably not an unfair criteria.

For example, I would count players like Quade Cooper as very much a Queensland product even through he only moved there when he was 13 (? from memory).

I do wonder why that graph has NSW/QLD lumped together though? I'd also love to see the change/spread over time too as all time is a little less interesting to the now than in the last 5-10yrs (outside of historical value).

I do see us going down the dangerous path of Wallabies being the indicator of top talent when it comes to the selection decisions of certain coaches etc.. can of worms awaits.

The spread for last years U20's squad (in terms of the state they were indicated as coming from) is;

ACT - 3

NSW - 11*

QLD - 8

VIC - 4

WA - 2

*Triston Reilly listed as 7's added to NSW

I'd have to go through it more closely to validate the states as per Reg's origin criteria.

I think the weighting to Queensland was heavier the year before with few from NSW and more than usual from the ACT.

In terms of our best side we were even in terms of starters with 5 each for NSW and Queensland (if Reilly is included with NSW).

and approximately 50% of those 13 leaguies would be from NSW. BTW, Rogers and Hunt wouldn't be in that basket as they went through GPS schools up there.

worth noting at least two of those Victorians attended high school in QLD
