RFU has cut 137 of their staff, something between 25%-33% of their staff. Everyone's hurting.

Also, I didn't realise Coleman is on 900 thousand pounds per year, surely he can never, never come home when he's so overvalued there.

Should Super Rugby follow AFL's lead and relocate to QLD as well? Or is Rugby a bit safe because ya know, all the players & staff live in North & East Sydney and not Campbelltown?

Between his appearances on "Will Greenwood's Podcast" and "The Breakdown" Twiggy is really pushing the one management model.

Just a little bit of a good news story - out here in the Central West, the Loig comps are all off and the rugby kicks off this weekend, the local media outlets literally have no other sport to cover. Aside from that, the loig players are all positing for spots on the reserve grade bench for their local rugby clubs.

This one management reform model (ie sort out the states) was a key condition for his investment in rugby but as he states centralised model been hallmark of success for NZRU and AFL. The positive to me is he would not be doing all these interviews if was not committed to doing something super rugby wise - appears he favours trans Tasman per the interviews so him appearing on the breakdown may well be part of campaign to get kiwis more on board with more oz teams but do feel he is putting out vibe to cut the rebels as sacrificial lamb if nz only agree to 4 oz teams. Ie RA want 5 teams - Kiwis want 2 to 3 so middle ground 4. I personally still want 5 for growth and hope twiggy would also push for this but his bashing of rebels makes me feel now setting them up as team to be cut to possibly meet nz demands.

Maloney is fantastic and I would happy to hear him commentate at every available opportunity.

Sean Maloney and Ozzyman would do me.

I think Maloney will be involved with the Shute Shield when it kicks off this weekend.

but do feel he is putting out vibe to cut the rebels as sacrificial lamb if nz only agree to 4 oz teams.

I got that sense too. A few pundits like Stephen Hoiles flagging that he doesn't feel they're earn't their spot in the comp, you just get a feeling for some of the discussions likely going on behind doors.

I got impression that was what Twiggy was pushing for too RN, think I said that in earlier post that I didn't fancy Rebel's cahnces, I think he wants Force's players back?, And have I heard that McLennan is pushing for PI team have it's base in OZ? Could be around about way to have 5 teams based here.

I'm curious what Kiwis think regarding the location of a PI team if it's not based in the Islands? Surely Western Sydney is a better go than Auckland? I think if you base it in Auckland you're encroaching too much on Blues territory where as I think there's a ton of people in Western Sydney they have no allegiance to the Tahs but would heavily support a PI side.

I've also read Sydney has a higher Tongan, Samoa and Fijian population than Auckland and Suva, Apia and Nuku'alofa

^ depends on who's running it: the consortium lead by Kaino & Rokococo are very keen on Auckland but if it's a JV involving the Fiji, Samoa & Tonga RU's then I guess it could just as easily be Sydney until Suva becomes a viable option.

Or perhaps with Twiggy posturing for the former force players and coaches to return it could be the Melbourne Rebels "Pacific Island" outift

Could certainly sell it as a pathway to identifying potential players for each nations from within the community. Truth be told. I'd have no issue with there being two PI sides. Or perhaps a combined PI in Auckland and a largely Fijian squad based in Western Sydney which has the largest number of Fijian outside of Fiji.

You never know. At that kind of money he could easily afford to come back for a tilt at the 2023 RWC. You'd think he'd pick up a pretty solid contract afterwards as well. Money is all well and good, but you'd regret missing a World Cup more when money is never likely to be short.

Who are these Force players you are talking about, the vast majority of the ex-force players at the rebels would of played 1-2 seasons in WA and would of played more games for their NSW private school than Force. If you have ever met Meakes, Philip, Deegan are as Northern Beaches Sydney as they come. Some of the rhetoric around who is developing what, where people identify as etc. is so incredibly tied up in myth.

DHP, RHP and Hardwick I can genuinely see heading back one day. DHP in particular I think it would be nice to see before his career is over.

Great throw-away statement - if only it were true.....

12 players moved from the Western Force to the Melb Rebels in 2017.
  • 3 were genuine local Perth rugby products - R&D Haylett-Petty + Richard Hardwick.
  • Angus Cottrell played club rugby in Brisbane - 6 seasons with WF (56 games).
  • Tetera Faulkner from Melb suburbs and elsewhere - 6 seasons with the WF (70 games).
  • Jermain Ainsley from NZ - Perth Spirit (16)/Western Force (17) - 3 seasons
  • Michael Ruru NZ - Perth Spirit (23)/Western Force (11) - 4 seasons
  • Adam Coleman - 1 game with Tahs - 4 seasons with WF (49 games)
  • Anaru Rangi - NZ - Spirit (17)/Force (9) - 3 seasons.
That's 9 of the 12 who do not match the generalisation above.

Sound like RA are going to stick to their guns with 5 teams in any TT comp. Force are secure financially, Qld & NSW are untouchable, Vic govt invests heavily in rugby and would play a major role in RWC2027, leaving only the Brumbies which could be cut, which is the team most wanted by NZ. Outside equity and a solid broadcast deal to be the main financial drivers, and to allay the player depth concerns, up to 3 imports per franchise to be allowed.

From the Aus this morning.

Tetra Faulkner - Is at the Waratahs
Jermain Ainsley - Is signed to the Highlanders next season
Adam Coleman - Is at London Irish
Anaru Rangi - Has just signed with NTT Shining Arcs in Japan

So of those last 6, only Cottrell and Ruru are currently at the club (although Cottrell is reportedly fielding offers from overseas, not sure about Ruru).
