Thorn looked like he had the Reds playing a League defensive pattern with the outside men continually jamming in.

Partly it looks like this because an attacking team has the wingers involved heavily, but with the 50/25 thing the defensive team often needs the back three, well back. We seem to end up with two forwards wide and as much as this is a gap-plug it is also a mis-match that offers the attacking team opportunity.

I think you’re right on the new rules causing changes in defensive patterns. I’ll watch tonight to see if the Brumbies and Waratahs are using an umbrella style defence or are sliding.

If anything I have seen as a difference from being there live and watching TV - you really can't see the detail in the back three on TV. It is a key reason why Campbell is often under-rated.

Went to the pub after attending tahs vs brumbies game with a mate where they were replaying game of Reds vs Force (latter which watched on laptop via kayo last night).

Watching on bigger screen and for second time made me appreciate how this was actually real high quality up tempo rugby from both sides and made me appreciate more quality of both Reds and Force for this game in what they delivered.

Well we're slowly getting there.

Skill levels at least are improving, the fumbles from Jock notwithstanding (1 certain try, the other a real possibility).

Geez the pigs impressed with overall workrate. ASY (Angus Scott-Young) got through an absolute mountain of work, nothing unusual there, he puts in the hard yards every game. Good to see Harry getting more stuck into the hard stuff as well, him and Fraser coming along very nicely indeed. Bloody good games from both. Hard not to single out every one of the 8.

We're still not yet firing on all cylinders in the backs. Big improvement from JOC (James O'Connor), still room to improve but I was pretty happy overall. Hamish and Chris for me were impressive. Stewart is quietly building a case for gold.

Force played as expected, well drilled and a lot of ticker, another night they would've snuck home. I'm liking their attacking structures. Ron Ralston again had a blinder. No surprise he was a standout for the filth last year. I wish we could've fit him into the program a the 'more.

Still a lot to improve, hopefully we can get it all together and smash the ACT in a couple of weeks.

Haven't seen Tupou's name mentioned on the last few pages, I think he could be in career best form at the moment.

Playing the full 80, smashing blokes in attack and defence, scoring tries, dominating scrums. Still gives away the odd silly penalty but besides that I don't know anything more the bloke could be doing right now.

It's almost a worry at the moment - his capacity to play the full 80 will leave us hugely exposed at tight head if he gets injured or suspended. Still, it's a bloody joy to watch right now.

He's also only just turned 24 this year. I would be signing him to the longest deal possible, he's got the potential to be a Wallaby for another 2 World Cups. I honestly think he will be hitting his prime at 28-30.
