Absolutely. I think it should be Wednesday arvo though, is my only relatively minor feedback.

I'd imagine they hold off until Thursday as a means of providing more accurate lists. Remember on Wednesday there's still another full day of training to go and injuries do happen. Which would mean they'd have to amend their lists. That's at least what I think might be the reasoning.

Yes as I said it was only a minor gripe. However isn't Wednesday a rest day, and they're announcing these teams early Thursday?

They used to have to announce Super Rugby teams 48 hours before kick off didn't they so they Friday games were announced on the Wednesday.

Given it is only four teams to coordinate I think it is good that they're doing it at the same time. It gives it a bit more cut through than having the teams announce one by one.

It's a reasonable compromise that it's happening a day closer to the Friday game than bringing the Saturday announcement forward a day and forcing teams to name a side before they ordinarily would.

my kid is in year 8 there and is all praise about him. he says 'Joe is my mate'. I've spoken to him - humble, polite, etc.
That’s the cool side of it, he can have one conversation with a boy and they’ll feel like royalty. He could probably turn the 13gs into 1sts if he spoke to them at half time.

Better for betting and also any fantasy games etc. Adds another day of rugby in the news cycle

Given he is at Kings, I think it is probably received pretty well.

I was told an anecdote last year that a bloke was anointed school captain in year 11, but couldn't pay the fee's for year 12 - so they didn't re-admit him. I don't approve of this in any way, but Kings is a unique beast.

think most private schools give their school captain a 100% scholarship. Pretty sure kings would, so doubt that story

Frankly I don't like it that the teams are announced on Thursday and believe its a missed opportunity to generate some mid-week news articles about new debutants and controversial player selections. By holding off until Thursday, it means Rugby is largely absent from the sporting news Sun-Thu.

NRL on the other hand requires their teams to announce their math-day squads plus 4 extra plyers on on Tuesday, then reduce that by 2 players 24hrs out, and finalise the squad 1 hour out from the match.

Personally I think the NRL are doing it better, like I said it helps generates mid-week news articles about player selections and discussions, and by naming an extended squad and cutting that down you still have the luxury of flexibility.

It was shaky at the time. It just looks plain stupid now.

One of the most stupid comments of all time, only surpassed by JON's comment to the effect that our game would be more popular than loig.

Sure, one free visit to South Africa would be great for most young chaps. But only one. For a pro athlete (particularly one in a serious relationship, let alone with a young family) playing at, or very near, home would be far far better than flying long-haul every two or three weeks.

NRL clubs chasing Jordan Petaia after Rugby Australia poach Joseph Sua'ali'i
In targeting the hottest 16-year-old footballer in the country, Rugby Australia may lose their best 20-year-old superstar as several NRL teams prepare to open their books.

Sua'ali'i mega deal 'unfair'
NRL: Joseph Sua'ali'i knocked back his Souths contract for a 3 year $3 million dollar deal with Rugby, with Paul Kent saying it's 'unfair' on him t...
While Rugby Australia have been making a play for schoolboy superstar Joseph Sua'ali'i, NRL clubs are quietly circling around the hottest young Wallaby in the country.

Jordan Petaia, contracted to Australian rugby for four years, is being sounded out by at least three league clubs.

Rugby Confidential understands the Brisbane Broncos, whose academy 20-year-old Petaia spent time in alongside David Fifita, have reached out to a family member to gauge his interest.
Another two clubs have also contacted either family members or associates of Petaia to see if he’s willing to make the switch to the NRL next year.

Petaia wants to be a long-term Wallaby, but uncertainty around whether RA can guarantee his full salary for the next four years will have him wavering.

Petaia spent his junior years playing league and if RA is unable to pay his full wage when the players’ pay cut agreement with their employer runs out on September 31, expect him to seek an early release from his contract and switch codes.

And this is the alarming situation facing rugby, not only for Petaia but all of their top stars.

Joseph Sua'ali'i.
Joseph Sua'ali'i.
To say players are upset about the revelations Sua'ali'i is being chased for big money by RA is an understatement and a half.

Trust between the players and RA is at breaking appointment.

For weeks they’ve wanted clarity on their futures. Many suspect they’ll be asked to take further pay cuts beyond September 31, which will be met with venom in light of the Sua'ali'i revelation.

RA is at pains to say they’re not offering Sua'ali'i anywhere near the speculated $3 million for three years, or even the $1.7 million that’s been offered by his NRL club South Sydney Rabbitohs.

But the players don’t believe that Sua'ali'i is suddenly interested in rugby for $200,000 a year and the dream of an Olympic gold medal.

Some believe that for the money RA would be outlaying for Sua'ali'i, they should get back French-based lock Will Skelton, who would at least give them a chance of beating the All Blacks.
