Wasn’t a big fan of benching McReight , but Liam Wright was all class tonight .

He is becoming a very good leader and a complete open side backrower .

Wright also seems to be calm with the referee and able to have an actual conversation where he can ask questions about rulings.

I have been very impressed with his leadership

Zander deserves a lot of credit - 80 minutes and out scrum Ala'alatoa for a guy who wasn’t even in the squad last year.

Had to double down on this. Zander is still listed as 20yo. To be making the jump to Super and propping a leading scrum is incredible. At 190cm I would have also thought a difficult ask.

If this is a result of Lillycrap then what a star in the Reds coaching team.

SRAu doesn't really suit my schedule so I'm mostly following it by way of highlights packages which obviously don't tell the full story. I'm therefore curious to know how people think the Law variations are working & esp what if any unintended consequences have emerged?

Occasional attempt at a 50-22 seems to be about it.

I think they’ve encouraged some more strategic kicking which I think is a really good thing for Australian rugby. Some of the kicking is good some of it is bad, but I’m a believer that we will only get better at this stuff but making it a bigger part of our game. So I think that is a really positive thing.

Just re-watching the game. It’ll be interesting what he did just before half time. He was clearly distressed and I thought his night was probably done, but he didn’t appear affected by it in the second half.

Looked like he got cracked in the sternum. Maybe he has costo? Hurts like hell but doesnt really do anything.

I'm not sure I'm ready for another watching.

Thought he was done when I saw it. A big effort to play 80 after that. The reserves mustn't be ready yet.

Its a perspective thing. The variations have not really added anything to be honest except adding more kicking when its less we need and making it more confusing and encouraging the feel for all breakdown orgy

From the MST's perspective the big difference between the variations on each side of he ditch is yours we can follow, make sense and you can pretty much know what and when the ref is going to call it.

On outside its still the orgy like breakdows with "lotto" ref'ing, slow srums etc with added confusion of the variations with additional stupid kicking thats NRL centric kicking (like we need more kicking!)

If we get an Bledisloe it will be interesting to see which laws will be used.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that our ref are calling only what they "have to" (when they are actually paying attention) and our TMO appears to be pretty much watching the game between Tic Tok videos; as we saw last night when the Ref watching the big screen post try had to call up the TMO about the foul play 25 phases back (the semi conscious player on the ground was not a sufficient clue!).

See - it’s interesting MST - I completely disagree on the kicking thing and I would argue the Kiwi sides all kick more than we do. But our kicking is too often poorly executed and/or all just kicking for distance. From my perspective good attacking teams have a well structured kicking game with variety AND an excellent kick chase - two things which I think we can improve on.

I think the positives of the rule changes are less obviously attributed to the changes. We have more players back fielding for the kicks now, meaning more space in the line meaning more breaks and exciting rugby and teams have to scramble more. I think this is good for two reasons: 1) practice our kicking for touch which is dire 2) get much better at scrambling in defence which will inevitably happen many times against the all blacks. How many times have we been in the game up until the 65th minute against NZ for Mackenzie or BB just to open us up with some voodoo shit turning us inside out and we can’t scramble to contain it. You can practice defence in a pattern and line all you want at training but this SupAu is good for teaching instinctual shit.

Would it be wrong to suggest the Kiwi law variations have turned their game into semi opposed touch football games?

Wright milked the fuck out of that.

Our box kicks never seem to be chased down by a winger - MK excluded.
